Graduation Requirements

WYOMING AREA GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

Beginning with the Class of 2005

Students must earn 22 credits to qualify for graduation for Wyoming Area High
School. 18 or more of these credits must be earned in major subjects. The
requirements for graduation also stipulate that 19.55 credits must be earned
as follows:

4 credits in English (1 credit per year)
4 credits in Social Studies (1 credit per year)
3 credits in Math
3 credits in Science
2 credits in Arts & Humanities
1.2 credits in Health/Phys Ed.
.20 Movement & Music (10th)

Beginning with the graduating class of 1999, all students will be required to
complete and pass a graduation project as required by Chapter V regulations of
the Pennsylvania Department of Education
A student who does NOT meet the requirements listed here CANNOT participate in
graduation ceremonies.
Each student must pass at least 6 credits per year to ensure fulfilling
graduation requirements.
Before a student is eligible to take part in graduation ceremonies all
obligations must be fulfilled. Each school year the high school principal
will establish the date when all obligations are to be met. These obligations
included but are not limited to the following:
a. Fines of any type: book, library, etc.
b. Detention - all detention requirements must be satisfied by the end of
May or the student will not be allowed to participate in graduation
ceremonies.
c. Suspensions - which fall on or during the day of graduation will not be
allowed to take part in the graduation ceremonies.
d. Incompletes - No student who has an incomplete grade on his/her report card
can graduate.
e. Uniforms - all uniforms must be returned to the coach, advisor, or
director on a date and time set by them.
This means a student who does not fulfill all of the requirements listed here
cannot participate in the graduation ceremonies.
However, after successful completion of outstanding graduation requirements,
the student will be given his/her diploma after graduation ceremonies have
occurred but not during the graduation ceremonies.
Repeating a failed English, History, or gym class is not allowed. These
failures can only be made up by attending summer school or doing
correspondence work. Which method of makeup is allowed depends on the failing
QPA in the failed course.

In the case of failing Math and/or Science, a student cannot double up in
these areas in one year to make up failures. A student can only take 1 Math
and 1 Science per year for remediation. These failures can be make up through
summer school and/or correspondence work depending on the failing QPA in the
failed course.

PLEASE NOTE: A student who makes up an academic failure by attending summer
school (Grades range from A-F) or doing correspondence work (can only earn a
‘D’ per course) will get credit of ONE MARKING PERIOD (per course passed) NOT
FOR AN ENTIRE COURSE. All costs incurred during failure make ups are the
responsibility of the student and his/her parents.

A student only has two opportunities to make up a failed subject.
