Grading- Understanding Progress Book

 I use a weighted grading system. Because of this, it is difficult to gain
an accurate guess at the grade until many items are entered. For example, a
student may fail a test and still pass for the quarter if they did very well
on his or her project and completed all homework assignments.

In English class, the weights are as follows:
Tests/Quizzes= 40%
Projects= 30%
Homework, Class Participation, Attendance= 20%
Journal/ Notebook= 10%

In Writing class, the weights are as follows:
Essays/Speeches= 40%
Quizzes= 30%
Homework, Class Participation, Attendance= 20%
Journal= 10%

If your child is not doing well, you can look at your child's progress and
see what area they need help on (I do this as well). If his or her homework
grade is low, then encourage them to complete assignments, or if his or her
test average is low, then encourage more study time.
