As we are now in the 3rd marking period I find that some of the children are beginning to "slack off" on their homework. It is imperative that they understand the importance of sticking to our original work schedule and see it through to the end of the school year. Homework is part of their grade and must be done. I assign homework because of its' importance of reinforcing learned material. Reading/spelling words are presented each Monday with a quiz given each Friday, unless prior notices are given. The students will be checked for knowledge of the words as well as their proper spelling. Math sheets are usually given Monday to Thursday and are a review of what was covered in class. Homework should not take more than 30 minutes, and students work is checked daily. Our reading program this year is SRA, a Direct Instruction program. The only reading assignments will be if your child was absent, or is unable to complete class assignments. I do expect the students to be neat and do as much work on their own as possible. If a parent needs to assist, please write me a note telling me so. Parents are key to making homework a positive experience: make it a priority provide an area where it can be done each day with limited distractions provide praise and support contact me if there are any problems Students have been given a planner and folder to carry home daily. One side is "Home", and the students are to keep these papers at home as they have been graded, or done in class as a group. The right side is "Return to School". These papers must be returned to school the next day.
