Greetings!
My name is Fr. John Babowitch and I am the pastor of St. Barnabas
Church and Mary, Mother of Peace Area Catholic School. Allow me to tell
you a little bit about myself. I was born and raised in the Kensington
section of Philadelphia. When I was in Second Grade, I realized that I
wanted to be a priest. After many years of hard work,I was ordained in
1996. My first assignment was as Parochial Vicar of St. Barnabas Parish.
In 2003, The Cardinal appointed me the Vocation Director of the
Archdiocese of Philadelphia. After serving in this position for two
years, I was asked to be the Pastor of my first priestly home,
St. Barnabas Church, where I also accept the responsibility for Mary,
Mother of Peace.
At this time, we are working on many areas in school. The
teachers do a fine job of preparing and presenting the curriculum. Our
Technology Lab has recently been improved and upgraded. And, we are
busy preparing for another great basketball season!
This month, we are focusing on social skills as well. I have
renamed the cafeteria "Fr. Babo's Bistro." At lunchtime, the children
are required to use the manners you teach them at home, and those you
practice when dining out. They use "inside voices." Respectful words
such as "please", "thank you", and "may I" are expected. Each student
is responsible for leaving their area clean and neat.
Many thanks for all you do to support our efforts. As you
encourage your children to practice their faith, to respect others, and
to complete their assignments, our home and school connection becomes
stronger. Together, we help them become the children God calls them to
be.
I thank you for choosing Mary, Mother of Peace as the place to
educate your children. I ask you to take an active part in that
education. Also, I invite you to come and visit the school and see
the good work that goes on here. I encourage you to spread our
