"In The News" Format: 1. Name 2. Article Headline 3. Name of Newspaper 4. IN YOUR OWN WORDS, describe what the article was about. This must be written in at least 4 complete sentences. No credit will be given for copying sentences directly from the article. 5. What is your opinion of the issue discussed in the article and what are your reasons? (For example, if your article was about Obama and his health plan, tell if you are for or against his health plan and why.) This must be written in a minimum of 2 sentences. "In The News" Guidelines: 1. You will have to hand in 3 "In The News" each marking period, except in the 2nd marking period when you will only have to hand in 2(Merry Christmas!). 2. You may use articles from a newspaper or from the internet, and you must attach a copy of the article to the paper you hand in. 3. Each article you use must be from a different date. (For example, you cannot use 3 articles from a Sept. 3 newspaper.) 4. Articles must be of national or international significance. (No articles about local chilli cook-offs or petty crimes) No sports or entertainment articles may be used unless it is a major story AND YOU HAVE CLEARED IT WITH ME. If ever you are unsure if an article is appropriate to use, ASK ME! (This is a good reason to work on this in advance and not do it at the last minute! ) You will lose points for inappropriate articles. 5. "In The News" will be due on specified dates during the marking period. (See due dates below) You are free to hand them in early, but they will NOT be accepted late. 6. "In The News" must be handed in on lined paper, written neatly and with proper grammar and spelling. The article must be attached. This will count for a major portion of your grade, so do your best work! "In The News" due dates for 2009-2010: 1st Marking Period: Sept 18, Oct 2, Oct 23 2nd Marking Period: Dec 11, Jan 15 3rd Marking Period: Feb 5, Feb 26, March 19 4th Marking Period: April 9, April 30, May 21
