Attitude to Study
is an initiative we endeavour to uphold at Pontiac High School. A positive attitude to study means that a student makes her/his own best efforts to be present at school, to be on time for their classes, to come prepared with all learning materials and ready to learn!
At Pontiac High School, we help students measure their attitude to study through a colour system.
In general terms, the criteria is:
Green- Excellent ATS- (always prepared, organized, assignments handed in on time, etc.)
White- Good ATS- All the efforts of a Green ATS, but student may struggle with Complex Tasks.
Yellow- Needs Improvement- Assignments missing, or often late, some unverified absences, can be disorganized, etc.
Red
- At-Risk ATS- Several assignments missing, late, several unverified absences, often disorganized, rarely prepared for class.
Flashing Red-Disruptive behaviour that affects the learning of others.
Ms. Taylor's Classroom Policy:
At the beginning of each term, everyone starts at Green.
A Yellow attitude to study will arise when a student is missing one (1) assignment (homework completion or complex tasks) and/or there are at least three (3) unverified absences in a term.
Being caught unprepared for class three times, a student will serve additional consequences and will receive a Yellow for preparedness.
A Red will arise if a student is missing two (2) or more assignments (homework completion or complex tasks) and has four (4) or more unverified absences.
Being caught again unprepared for class three times, a student will serve additional consequences and will receive a Red for preparedness.
A Flashing Red occurs if the student is frequently off-task and affecting the learning of others within the classroom.
If a student has missed an assignment/project deadline, following two (2) opportunities to hand in an assignment of their own accord, they will be sent to Ms. Taylor's Homework Room at lunch until it is complete. This would be similar to three strikes in baseball. If a student fails to attend the assigned Homework Room, additional consequences will be applied (detention).
If this is an occurrence that happens more than once, I will contact home and an academic concern will be filed on behalf of the student.
