Current Event Presentations

-You will turn in a topic with an article about it for your presentation no later than one week before the due date.

-You will be required to make an oral presentation on this topic using at least two sources.

-DO NOT PRINT OUT ANY PORTION OF YOUR ARTICLE AND GLUE IT TO YOUR POSTER. HOWEVER, YOU MAY PUT PICTURES AND FIGURES.

Grading Criteria: Overall keep it simple but make a point. Know the subject and present it in your own words.

Visual Aid ( 35 pts)

____Uses large lettering that can be easily seen and read by all members of the class (5 pts)

____Contains a symbol, picture(s) and sentence(s) which summarize what the presentation is about (10 pts)

____Uses at least standard 23” x 28” poster board (5 pts)

____Pictures, symbols, etc can be easily seen by the class (5 pts)

____Is used as part of the presentation, referred to and used to show some main point on what the presentation is about (10 pts)

Oral Presentation (65 pts)

____ Topic and article turned in one week in advance (10 pts)

_____Introduction, what topic is about, how it applies to either Biology, in Biology class, Environmental Science in Environmental Class or Chemistry, in Chemistry class (10 pts)

____ Discussion, what the key research on the subject is.(10 pts)

____How and why it is being done. (10 pts)

____Include a typewritten sheet showing the sources used (10 pts)

____ Presentation can be heard by the class, is well organized, and well rehearsed. At least 3 but no more than 6 minutes long (15 pts)

** Not acceptable: Reading your material. Note cards or an outline may be used for reference. This is about your ability to know the subject and to talk about it in your own words to the class!!!
