Volleyball/Badminton

The general syllabus is posted on the syllabus page.  The entire first 
semester will cover fitness.  The second semester will cover volleyball, 
badminton, and sexuality education.  Parents will have the opportunity to 
review the sex ed materials one week prior to instruction.  The tentative 
outline for volleyball/badminton is below.


Jan 20 - 23 	Begin (PI #1):  Volleyball
					Introduction, unit objectives
					History, rules, terminology and 
                                        regulations

			Jan 26 – Jan 30	Fundamental skills:  Forearm pass, 
                                        serve, & set Spike &Block     
                                        Skills assessment

                        Feb 2 – Feb 6	Team Strategies:  Offense – 6 – 2, 
                                        4 – 2, 5 – 1, 5 man serve receive, 
                                        spike coverage, drives, dinks
		                        Skills assessment
		     			     Tournament play
          		
                        Feb 9 – Feb 13  Team Strategies:  Defense – Base 
                                        position, Middle Back, Middle Up, 
                                        Block coverage, Digs, Free Ball
		                        Skills assessment
	
                        Feb 17 – Mar 4 Skills assessment
                                        Tournament play
    			                Rules assessment
                                        videotaping of volleyball 4 v 4
                                          and basketball 3 v 3
 
                        Mar 5 - Mar 18 Sexuality Education – Males and      
                                        Females will be separated.
                                        The course will be taught by sex ed   
                                        teachers from the district office.   
                                        It will be taught for 8 – 10 days 
                                        during this time period.	 

                        Mar 23 - Mar 27 Begin (PI # 1):   Badminton
		                        Introduction – unit objectives
		                        History, rules, terminology and 
                                        regulations

                        Apr 6 – Apr 10	Spring Break
		     
                        Mar 30 – Apr 3	Fundamental skills:  Grip, ready 
                        Apr 14 - Apr 17 position, footwork, serve, 
			                Clears – overhead, underhand, 
                                        forehand, backhand
		                        Singles Challenge Games

                        Apr 20 – May 1 Skills assessment
		                        Advanced skills:  Drop shot, smash
		                        Strategy:  Singles serve return
		                        Singles tournament

                        May 4 – May 15	Singles Tournament
		                        Strategy Assessment
		                        Doubles play:  Rules, strategy
		                        Doubles challenge games

                        May 18 – May 22	Tournament Play
		                        Skills Assessment
	                                Written test
		                        FitnessGram Re-Test Scores Due (PI #4)
                                        End of course tests in English, 
                                          Math, and Science
 
                        May 26 – June 4	Final Exams
                                        Exam Review
