About The Teacher
My husband, Bart and I have lived in Holly Hill since 1998. We moved to Holly Hill from Summerville because of the family oriented community and close-knit friendships that Holly Hill could offer. Our children, ManerAnne and Bartow both attend Holly Hill Academy. The 2011-2012 school year will be my 9th year teaching at Holly Hill Academy and 18th year in the teaching profession. During the past 18 years I have taught in a variety of positions and achieved some wonderful honors. In December of 1993, I graduated Magna Cum Laude from the College of Charleston with a BS degree in Elementary Education. I began my teaching career in Charleston County at Midland Park Elementary. From there, I had the pleasure of teaching in Dorchester School District 2 for a total of four years. During that period, I achieved the honor of "PTSA Teacher of the Year" at DuBose Middle School for two years and received the same honor at Gregg Middle School my final year in Dorchester 2. When Bart and I decided to move to Holly Hill, I began teaching in Orangeburg Consolidated School District 3. I worked there for a number of years until 2003 when the middle school science teaching position at Holly Hill Academy became available. I have been teaching middle school science and a number of other courses since that time. During the 2005-2006 school year, I received the honor of being named a finalist for "SCISA Middle School Teacher of the Year". Then I received the honor of being named "SCISA Middle School Teacher of the Year" for the 2006-2007 school year. During the 2008-2009 school year I completed the requirements to become a SCISA Master Teacher; thereby making me a Class of 2009 SCISA Master Teacher. I love teaching at Holly Hill Academy! I have the pleasure of teaching, interacting with, and learning from wonderful children. The CLASS OF 2014 has graciously accepted me as their homeroom teacher and sponsor. And finally, I feel fortunate to be working with an extremely talented faculty.
Mission Label:
Mission
In general, the goal for all of my science classes is to demonstrate the knowledge of specific science skills by utilizing the scientific method. I hope to encourage my students to investigate the unknown. I will challenge them to utilize higher order thinking skills with activities and technology. Finally, we will have a fun and exciting year learning about the various scientific principles. Fifth grade is considered General Science. This year is dedicated to getting more indepth in the study of Life Science, Physical Science, and Earth Science. Additionally, I will utilize another set of textbooks to supplement the main text. Sixth and seventh grades will both utilize the Prentice Hall Life Science textbook. Sixth graders will investigate the complexities of plants and animals. While seventh graders will analyze cells and the human body. Biology II is a continuation of Biology I. We will begin the year by studying insects. By doing so, I hope the students will be able to get started on their insect collections early and turn them in at any time before May 1. Additionally, I look forward to investigating the complexities of plants and animal sciences with this class.
