On Friday, February 22, we will be staging the famous “ThirdGradeBiographyWax Museum.” This event is a big highlight for the third graders and is something the lower elementary students are invited to “watch”. We will be having the Wax Museum in the Fireside Room on February 22nd. The classes are invited to come from 9:00-9:30, and then parents are invited to walk through from 9:45 A.M. until 10:15 A.M. After this, we will walk over to the chapel where each third grader will give a short speech on who their character is for the parents. This will be from 10:15 until 11:15.

The following gives instructions on how to prepare for this event.

I.     A Costume

You may bring props that will support your character.

II.   A Tri-fold Display Board

·   The name of the person you are doing should be in large letters in the center of the middle board. All pictures and text should be backed by either colored construction paper or cardstock so it will stand out. Nothing is to be written directly onto the display board. All information may be handwritten on notebook paper or typed on the computer, backed with colored paper, and then placed on the display board. Only use the space on the board. Please do not add additional space by taping/gluing anything off the edges. Be creative with your display and plan this before gluing anything to the board. This is a BIG project and should not be done the night before. Please plan ahead J

·   Please include the following information on your display board.

o       Name of Person

o       Birth date, Place of birth, Date of death (all three should be in one section)

o       Family (how many brothers/sisters they have, orphan, oldest/youngest, etc.)

o       Where they grew up

o       Any important events that occurred during their lifetime

o       What important accomplishments they achieved

o       What they are most known for today

·   You may include pictures, maps, diagrams, borders, stickers, etc. to decorate and add interest to your board. If you get pictures from the internet, please make sure they are clear and large enough to see from a good distance.

·   Each picture needs a caption written clearly to describe the picture.

·   Write your name on the BACK of the display board.

III.     Oral Presentation

The oral presentation will be in the chapel and will be done for the parents. Please bring your display board and any props with you to the chapel so you will have them when you give your speech. You will have about one to one and a half minutes to give your presentation. Points will be deducted for not staying within the time limit. You may write the main points on a 3x5 card and use it when you give your speech. You are to speak in first person for the entire speech. For example, if you are doing George Washington you can say, “I am George Washington, and I was the first president of the United States…..” Please practice your speech before the day of the performance.

The Biography Question sheets need to be filled out and will be used as a guide for your oral presentation. From the Biography Question sheets, use the answers to questions 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 in your oral presentation. You may include other answers, but these are required to be in your speech. Make your speech interesting! When you give your speech, do not ask a question and then just give the answer. This is to be a speech, not a list of questions and answers.

The answers on the question sheets need to be written in complete sentences and turned in by Wednesday, February 20th.
