RMSA Discipline Plan
All teachers expect students to behave maturely and responsibly. As such,
all of your child's teachers will handle discipline in the same fashion.
Each student must be aware of expected behaviors as outlined in the student
handbook and adhere to these behaviors at all times. Failure to do so will
result in the consequences listed below. Please realize that rules are in
place to provide all students with a safe, comfortable, and secure learning
environment. Our rules are as follows:
1. Be respectful.
2. Be responsible.
3. Be resourceful.
4. Be safe.
Consequences (start over daily):
1. Warning
2. Think Time
3. Detention (Lunch/Recess)
4. Parent Contact
5. Office Referral
Severity Clause:
In case of extreme disrespect or behavior harmful to others (such as
fighting), we will proceed directly to step 5.
Detentions will be recorded in a log in the lunchroom. In order for
discipline to be consistent, all teachers' detentions will be listed and
accumulated together in that log for each grading period. If a child
accumulates five detentions in one quarter, his/her parent will be
contacted. If the student continues to receive detentions, he/she will be
referred to an administrator. The student's discipline card will be wiped
clean, and they will start with a clean "slate" each quarter.
In some cases, it may be necessary to keep students in at recess in order
for them to make up or finish work. This is not a "disciplinary action" and
will not be treated as such.
Sincerely,
Sixth Grade Teachers
