How do I contact Mrs. Smith?
At school: 873-3610 and leave a message. I will return your call as soon
as I am able.
School email: csmith@dorchester2.k12.sc.com (I check this daily)
If you wish
to talk at great length, then please call the school to set up a conference.
Does my child have to write in cursive?
The more your child practices using cursive-the better he/she will become at
writing quickly and neatly. I strongly encourage the use of cursive and
work hard to correct formation errors they may have developed.
What if my child is absent?
Please, please, call the school and request your child's work missed and how
many days they will be out. Allow me 24 hours to get the assignments
together and then they have one week to complete the assignments. If they
missed tests or major instruction time, then you need to set up an
afternoon time in which they can stay after school to take the tests and
receive instruction on what they missed. It must be arranged with me first.
I tutor students every Thursday morning (8:00-8:25 AM) in my classroom.
What if my child didn't finish his/her project/assignment when its due
If a due date is given, then work will only be accepted on that due date.
Please, do not send in excuses and notes requesting extensions. It is not
fair to those students who managed their time and completed their work on
time. If a child is ill during that time and has been absent, then
arrangements can be made within that week he/she returns to turn in the
assignment.
How do I know what my child's homework is?
You should be able to check the child's agenda by Social Studies and see
that he/she has copied the homework, at the beginning of class, into their
agenda. You can also check my website for
homework and assignment information.
How do I know if my child is doing the assignments?
Again, check the agenda. Notes will be stapled in the agenda that will
indicate if homework or classwork is not done. You may also check the
What if my child loses his/her agenda?
The agenda must be with your child at school at all times. If they lose it
and cannot find it anywhere, then they will need to purchase another one
from the office. They should not be switching back and forth
between two agendas or between an agenda and notebook paper. The agenda,
when used daily and kept up with, allows you to see what patterns are
occuring with your child,i.e. whether or not they have had a good
day/week/month, and how often they have not done what they were supposed to.
