FAQFrequently Asked Questions: This page contains answers to common questions of students and parents.
Where can I purchase the ARTIST PORTFOLIO that is on the art supply list? Stores that sell office or art supplies (such as Micheal's and AC Moore) sometimes have large portfolios or will order them for you. To puchase on line, there are many sites. A reliable site is dickblick.com Also, I will order portfolios for those interested. Information went home during the first week of school. $6 is due by September 9th for those ordering through RMSA. How can parents be involved in the RMSA visual art program? Volunteers are essential for field study trips. Helping hands in our classroom are valuable with many processes and media. You are always welcome to visit. Why do we study the Elements and Principles of Design? The Elements of Design are the "visual tools" an artist uses to create. They are WHAT an artist uses. The Principles of Design are the guidelines for arranging the elements. These are HOW an artist arranges the elements. Knowing and understanding the Elements and Principles is important in planning a composition and in discussing artworks. For an example of applying the elements and principles, visit the artopia website. You can paste the link below into your address bar (URL bar). http://www.knowitall.org/artopia/painting/artcritic/piebald/piebal d_txt.html Metal sharpeners are recommended because they last longer. They can usually be found in office supply stores (such as Staples) and art supply stores (like Micheals). There are several kinds of blenders. For Level II students who choose to purchase Prismacolors, you may want to buy a Prisma blender. You can find those at an art supply store. Another blender type resembles the form of a cigar but is cream colored. This type of blender is mostly used for graphite. How can I find information about SC artists? One source is http://www.sciway.net/ This site offers information on SC artists, organization, galleries, and events. Also, check my 'Links' page. When may I make up missed work? Making up missed work is the student's responsibility. Students may arrange to work before or after school. I will gladly work with students any time that they can benefit from addition work time or instruction. Why are the field study trips so expensive? When we take trips outside of our area, we are required to use charter buses. The cost of the buses (more than $900.00 per bus) is the largest part of the cost. What is the benefit of drawing from life? As artists, we need to learn to study the objects we draw rather than work from a photograph. Better observation skills result in better artists. How can students earn extra credit? If students have submitted all required work, they may complete an extra credit assignment. One opportunity is to create a 'Career in a Bag' and present it to the class. This assignment was introduced in class. The rubric may be found on my 'Photos/Docs' page. Where can I find information about art periods and artist? Go to my Links Page. Who created the sculpture on my home page? Jean-Michel Folon (1 March 193420 October 2005) was a Belgian artist, illustrator, painter, and sculptor. This sculpture is one in a series of 'Everyman' pieces that he created to be displayed or installed in urban settings. The sculpture on my home page is from a 2005 exhibition of Folon's work at Forte Belvedere - Sala d'Arme di Palazzo Vecchio, Italy. |
