With everyone's busy schedules in March, we will postpone our 2nd mural until April. We will
select this date at our next meeting.
___________________
Please note the change of possible dates for mural paintings. (March 7th will NOT be a painting
day - too many sick people) Hopefully we can select a day that will work to accomplish the
second murals in one day.
Please let me know if March 28th would work for you:

* Saturday, March 28: 8 am – 12:30/ 12:30 pm - 4 pm

Congratulations to all of our newly inducted NJAHS members! Any student unable to attend the
meeting needs to come by my room to sign your membership card and cast your vote for our
officers.

We will have Saturday painting sessions for our second mural at Hallmark. We would like to find
dates that work best with your busy schedules. Please let me know via email if you would be
able to paint either Saturday (or both). For days you are available, please indicate times you
would be able to paint. You may choose any part of the day. We will notify students and
parents of the dates we select.

Saturday, February 28: 8 am – 12:30 pm/ 12:30 pm - 4 pm
Saturday, March 7: 8 am – 12:30/ 12:30 pm - 4 pm

What a great day for RMSA NJAHS! Our artists worked together all day on January 23rd to
successfully create murals in a dayroom at the Hallmark Rehab Center. Three walls are beach
scenes with sand dunes, sea oats, and palm trees. The fourth wall suggests a beach house with
shutters on either side of the observation window. The paintings are wonderful! My thanks to
these artists for their diligence and cooperation! Thanks also to Hallmark for providing this
opportunity and making the day so much fun. The refreshments, lunch, and support were great.
Providing a place for students to work on sketches or take a break was very helpful. I
appreciate parents who helped get students to and from Hallmark and helped monitor students as
we worked.
If you were not able to join us, stop by to see our masterpiece. Hallmark is located at 255
Midland Pkwy, Summerville (next to the Summerville Medical Center). Check out our group on
my ‘Gallery’ page!

** We will have a NJAHS meeting on Wednesday (January 21st) during your lunch. If you are not
able to attend, it is very important that you see me sometime during that day. We will finalize
our mural design and nominate students for NJAHS offices. Consider putting your name on the
ballot!

Please remember that you need to have joined the NJAHS and currently have an A or B in visual
art to participate in our mural painting on Friday, January 23rd. If you are eligible and have
not given me a signed permission slip, be sure to have it on Wednesday.

Also, if you need to arrive at Hallmark earlier than 8:30 am or need to leave later than 5:00
pm, let me know. I can arrive earlier and stay later if needed.

Finally, if you need to ride the bus to or from school, make sure that your permission slip
indicates that you need transportation to or from Hallmark. And, if any parent is able to help
transport students at 8:30 and 3:00, please let me know.

I am looking forward to a great mural day!!

Our first RMSA NJAHS service project is to paint murals in the Dayrooms of the Hallmark
Healthcare and Rehab Center of Summerville. We will have a full day of painting on January 23,
2009 (Friday). It will be a busy day and a wonderful opportunity for these artists! Students
who have joined NJAHS and have an A or B are invited to participate.
Students may stop by my room to get a permission slip. (Hallmark is donating the materials and
lunch; I will take a personal day; we will not be using a school bus – so there is no charge to
participate.)

We are contacting the media in hopes of gaining newspaper and television coverage of this
special program. We have such wonderful artists, and hope to share their work with the
community.

If you have any questions, concerns, or offers of support, please do not hesitate to contact me:

is $5.00.

History and Description:
In 1978, the National Art Education Association(NAEA) began the NAHS (National Art Honor
Society) program specifically for high school students in grades 10-12, for the purpose of
inspiring and recognizing those students who have shown an outstanding ability in art. The NAHS
also strives to aid members in working toward the attainment of their highest potential in art
areas, and to bring art education to the attention of the school and community.

In 1989, the NAEA introduced the NJAHS (National Junior Art Honor Society) as a separate
organization from the NAHS. This program, specifically for students in grades 7-9, was designed
to help generate interest in art programs at the secondary levels and inspire and recognize the
younger art student. The NJAHS students will become members of a distinguished group of art
students.
