Reader's Response Journal (RRJ):

What is it?

  • a formal piece of writing
  • a paragraph written on an assigned topic
  • written in third person point of view (Never first person--"I"--or second person--"you")
  • head your paper MLA style
  • write in cursive
  • skip lines
  • the first line must include the name and author of the novel
  • the paragraph must include a topic sentence, three or more details with supporting evidence, and a closing sentence that restates the topic sentence
  • the paragraph must include three or more quotations
  • the quotations must be cited using MLA parenthetical citations
