Homework

Homework consists of daily practice. Students are usually given an
assignment daily to practice. If no assignment is given students are to
practice the lesson from class that day. The following are the practice
quidelines for each grade level to receive a grade of 100:

6th grade - 100 minutes weekly
7th grade - 150 minutes weekly
8th grade - 180 minutes weekly

I know everyone has a hectic schedule and some days it seems impossible to
fit it all in. If at all possible don't just skip a practice session. Even
10 minutes practice helps your student to be prepared for class the next
day. Then, practice longer on a less busy day. Practice is essential to
success. If a child does not practice at home what we learn in class, he
will not improve. This will eventually be reflected in daily classroom
performance and on playing tests.

I am unable to monitor your child's practice without your help. Students
are required to maintain a practice journal to record their daily practice.
Students have a practice log to record their practice time inside their
notebook. Please check the amount of time recorded to make sure it
matches the actual practice time and sign for that week. The log then
will be turned in on Tuesdays and the grade recorded. Practice journals are
part of their weekly class grade. You can download a rubric for the weekly
grade from my download page. This should be an easy grade for all students.
However, many students practice but don't record it or don't get the journal
signed. This can take off one fourth of your child's weekly grade. Please
help your child keep up with this important task.
