Welcome letter

                                                          August 20, 2008

Dear Parents and Students,

I am so glad you are in my language arts class this year. I look forward to
getting to know each and every one of you. I want this year to be successful
for each and every one of my students. WE CAN DO IT...TOGETHER!!

This website will be an invaluable tool for you this year. Here you will be
able to find your homework for the week, study tools, notes you may have
missed, examples of writing, and much more! You can also email me from the
home page of the website! Last year my website received over 8,500 hits!
Parents, don't make it your responsibility to check the website; allow your
student to get into the habit of checking his or her teachers websites on a
regular basis.

If you want to see your student's grades at home, you can! RMSA uses In
Touch which is a website you can go to in order to access my online
gradebook. You will receive a password so that you can access your child's
grades throughout the nine-week period. I update the gradebook aproximately
once a week.

Please feel free to contact me whenever you need to. I hope to talk to each
one of you as the year progresses. The easiest way to get in touch with me
is to email me (tratliff@dorchester2.k12.sc.us. You can also just click on
the icon on the homepage.) I check my email frequently throughout the day
and will get back in touch with you quickly, but it will probably be after
school until 4:00 or during my planning period (9:34-10:37). I usually do
not check my email at night. You can also reach me by leaving a telephone
message with the school office (873-9673). I check my messages
before school, during my planning period, and after school. I will call you
back as soon as I can.

You can always schedule a conference with me or with your student's team of
teachers by contacting the school office (873-9673). Mrs. Russ, the school
secretary, will be happy to schedule one for you.

I'm looking forward to a fantastic year of learning! Let's make 2008-2009
the best year ever!

Sincerely,
Tammy Ratliff
