Principal's Message

Principal Photo
On behalf of the faculty and staff, I welcome you to the Woodruff Primary School family! We believe the parent is the child's first teacher, so we encourage you to be involved in your child's early educational experiences. We believe the community is important to children's educational success. We are thankful to be part of such a supportive community. Student achievement in a safe, secure learning environment is our primary goal. We appreciate you and your continuing support during the 2013-2014 school year. We look forward to working closely with you to accomplish our goals for your child.

Announcements

St. Jude Trike-A-Thon
St Jude Children's Research Hospital Website
Please plan to join us for our St. Jude Trike-A-Thon on Thursday, April 17th. Children need these things to participate: tricycle or bicycle (scooters and skate boards not permitted), helmet (our little ones may not ride without a helmet), donation of any amount, and participation form signed by the parent/guardian. Prize levels begin with a $35 donation. Food vendors will be selling a variety of food items, so plan to eat supper with us. Many will be donating a portion of their sales to St. Jude, too. We look forward to a fun evening while supporting a great cause!

WPS Community Project for April

Our community service project for the month of April will be fundraising for St. Jude Children's Hospital as children participate in the St. Jude Trike-A-Thon. We appreciate our parents' support of our monthly projects. We think it is important for children to learn the value of helping others.

Excellent on School Report Card
2013 School Report Card
WPS rated "excellent" on the 2013 School Report Card for the absolute rating and "excellent" for the growth rating. We appreciate the staff, parents, students, and community members who support WPS and make it such a special place for children to learn and grow.

WPS Receives ESEA Rating
2013 ESEA Rating
Woodruff Primary School received an "A" rating with an index of 97.1 under the federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA). Primary school ratings are based on third grade assessment data of students who had been enrolled at the primary school the previous year. Therefore, the "A" rating for WPS is based on the 2012-13 assessment data of third graders at WES. We are so proud of our children and their success at WES! We love to hear that our little ones continue to do well after they leave WPS!

NAEYC Accreditation
Find NAEYC Accredited Programs

WPS holds national accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). This accreditation is recognized as one of the highest accomplishments for an early childhood organization and designates WPS as having a high quality program for young children. Only 8% of all early childhood programs in the United States have been accredited by NAEYC.

Volunteers

We are so grateful for our volunteers. They fill many roles at WPS. They help in our library and with our book fairs. They help with our music programs. They read in our classrooms. We are always needing volunteers to help with our little ones and their activities. If you would be willing to volunteer your time and services, please contact Mrs. Ann Hodge at 476-3174.

Ways to Be Involved at WPS!

There are many ways to be involved at WPS. You may participate in our volunteer program and read to a child or help a teacher. You may become active in our Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO). Our PTO sponsors many events throughout the year. You may attend our School Improvement Council (SIC)/Title I meetings. Our SIC works to address issues in an effort to make WPS even better! We encourage you to get involved in any way that you can.
