Where can I get another Homework Calendar?

There is a copy on this website.

Do students have to wear tennis shoes?

There is not a rule about shoes but we feel tennis shoes are the
most appropriate shoes for our children. They help us to keep
them safe. The students are less likely to trip or fall during
play, recess, and PE. They don't struggle to keep them on as they
climb steps and play equipment. When students go into the new
gym, tennis shoes are required on the new floor.

Can students have a rolling bookbag?

No. Our school has a rule that prohibits the rolling bags. They
are a safety hazard for our students. They get tripped up in the
wheels and cause falling hazards.

What time does school start?

Students are tardy at 8:00. They should be in the room and ready
to start at 8:00. Students should have made a lunch choice,
signed in, unpacked the bookbag, exchanged books, and had the
Homework Folder checked. This routine takes about 5-10 minutes.
Students entering late have to do this during Plan, Do, Review. I
would like all students in the room by 7:50. The WPS News Show
starts at 7:55 and we are all on the carpet for the Pledge of
Allegience, Our School Promise, the announcements, and our
exercises when the program starts.Students experience that
same "running behind" you have when they start their day "rushed
and behind." A few extra minutes can make the difference between
a relaxed, fun morning and a stressed, rushed one.

Will my child learn to read in Kindergarten?

YES! They will bring home leveled readers to read to you. All
kindergarten students should be reading on at least Level 3 by
the end of the year. If you read with your child and to your
child every night, your child will make a great deal more
progress.

What do kindergarten students learn in Math?

Kindergarten students learn to count, tell time, recognize money,
measure, join sets, take away sets, graph, and lots more. Go to
the SC Dept. of Education website for a complete list of the
Kindergarten standards. I have a link on this website. Check it
out.

Can I have another conference with you?

Sure! Just call the office or me at home. I will set up another
appointment and we can discuss any questions or concerns you have.

Can I eat lunch with my child?

Sure! Just e-mail me, send a note, or call. I need to let the
cafeteria and the security desk know to expect you. Call the day
before or early that day.

When should I stop walking my child into the building?

We encourage the kindergarten children to learn the way to the
room and become independent and responsible. There are teachers
and staff in the halls to help students and to make sure they are
safe. After the first week of school, your child should come into
the building alone. Check your parent handbook for more
information.

remember to call before 9:30 P. M. You can call at school at 476-
3174 (ext. 4066) anytime and leave a message.Send a note and I
