I am delighted to be your student's APEX teacher. This is my third year of
teaching APEX at Bartlett Elementary. Previously, I had taught 7th grade
language arts in several middle schools.
I earned both my bachelor's degree and my Master of Fine Arts in Teaching
degree from the University of Memphis. Soon after earning my Master's Degree,
I returned to school yet again and earned a +45 certification, which is an
additional 30 hours above the Master's level. In 2002, I earned the
certification, from the state of Tennessee, to teach gifted students.
I am married and have two sons, both of whom attended and graduated from
Shelby County Schools. Our oldest son, who graduated from Middle Tennessee
State University, lives in Houston, Texas and works in medical sales. Our
youngest son graduated from UT Martin in May, 2009, and works as a Registered
Nurse in Nashville.
APEX (Academic Programs for the Exceptional) is a special education
program designed for individuals who meet the criteria, as set forth by the
state of Tennessee, for intellectually gifted students. The APEX program
focuses on critical and creative thinking techniques, research and study
skills, problem-solving skills, decision making, and the development of
students as self-motivated, lifelong learners.
