Welcome Battle Geeks!
I'll post photos and information about our techological adventures throughout
the school year on this page.
Reading Eggs (grades K & 1), FasttMath (grades 2-5) and Study Island (grades
K-5) are ready for you to explore and will be embedded as concept
reinforcement (practice) and remediation at every grade level. Reading Eggs
provides a unique login when a parent enrolls using their home computer. You
will receive information providing directions for enrolling at home.
Study Island login procedures will use district assigned lunch numbers as
username and password. However, some usernames/lunch numbers were already
assigned to Study Island users at another school. If so, your child's first
name will be placed in front of the lunch number for their username and the
password will remain their lunch number alone.
FasttMath is being completed by different grade levels and groups within grade
levels. This Scholastic published program reinforces student development of
math facts: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
We will begin working with a new keyboarding program this year - Typing Pal -
to prepare our students for the planned 2014 online state assessment.
If you have questions about these programs please contact me via phone or
e-mail at 209-5747, ext 269 or rosenow_s@hcde.org
BattleBots & Little
Bats/Bots Robotics Teams
Our Battle Bots robotics team will meet in the Forum from 3:00-5:00PM, each
Monday, beginning January 28. We will continue working on the 2012 First Lego
League Challenge called Super Seniors! and share with our new team members
procedures and practices that will prepare them to be valuable participants in
the program. We will participate in the TVA Showcase in May (Time and Dates to
be announced later). Our fifth grade students have rotated off the team
allowing room for the new participants in third and fourth grade to join us.
Although I've grown the team significantly for the spring semester, FLL limits
team size to 10 students, which will result in the creation of a "varsity" and
"jr. varsity" grouping for next fall. Look for a calendar sent home with your
child to place on the refrigerator as a reminder of our meeting dates and
times.
Our one year old Jr. FLL teams, Little Bats and Little Bots, will meet on
Wednesdays each week in the Forum, from 3:00-5:00PM, beginning January 30.
This program is designed for a smaller group of 6-9 year olds. We will
continue to explore the basic philosophy and concepts of the First Lego League
while experimenting with Lego building blocks and simple machine mechanisms,
and working with the Super Seniors! challenge. Although FLL requires each jr
FLL team to be limited to 6 students, I have allowed this number to grow
slightly larger so that more students could participate. Two of our graduating
fifth graders will be assisting with the Jr. FLL teams to provide models and
support for program activities.
We are in need of donated snacks: individual packages of crackers, pretzels,
fruit snacks or fruit, and juice boxes/pouches would be greatly appreciated.
