When will homeroom lists be posted?

Homeroom lists will not be posted until Registration Day. The children will
be called according to homeroom by their teacher from the auditorium on
August 8. This is Registration Day. Even the teachers do not know right now
who is in their homeroom and we will no be made privy to that information
until registration day
ourselves.

What are the required supplies for the 4th grade.

This is the second year that the Fourth Grade teachers have gotten together
and compiled a supply list. We have sent home one with each third grade
student at Benton Elementary School. There is one listed on this web site on
the supply list page.

Do you allow parent volunteers in your room?

Parents are welcome to volunteer in my room. However, you must be on the
approved list. You will need to get a form in the office after school begins
and then feel free to come and help out. If you will be coming to our
classroom, I would ask that you notify me in advance so I can get work ready
for you to do. I will not have anything ready for volunteers unless I have
been notified that someone is coming. There is a volunteer board beside the
office. I will place anything that I need done on an index card with the
materials needed to complete the task in my mailbox.

When is an appropriate time to meet with you?

I like to consider myself flexible with the parents of the students in my
classroom. I do, however, ask that you make an appointment and come and talk
to me either during my planning time or after school. By meeting with me
during these times, it will not take me away from the instruction of your
child. If you call during the school day, the secretary will take a message,
and I will do my best to call you back during my planning time or after
school. My phone number is in the book, and I will provide it to my students
on the first day of school. However, I ask that you not call me at home
after 9:00 p.m. My planning time has not yet been established. When it is,
I will have the times posted on this web site.

Do you allow students to redo work?

I will occasionally allow students to redo work. If everyone in
the class has done poorly on an assignment, then we will go over the skill
again, and I will give the children another assignment based on the same
skill. I would like for the students to try hard the first time they attempt
an assignment. If they need help, all they have to do is ask. I will be
more than glad to go over an assignment again, or sit down with an individual
child one-on-one to explain an assignment. When a student is absent from
school, they will have 3 school days to return the work to me after they
return to school.

Will my child have homework?

The students in my classroom work hard all day every day. If they do not
complete their assigned tasks, they will have homework. I try really hard
not to assign homework. However, sometimes it is necessary for the children
to complete work at home. I will also send home a practice test or a review
sheet before all math, science, and social studies tests. If your child
consistently has homework, they may be having problems or could simply be
goofing off in class. If you have any concerns about the amounts of homework
your child is having, please feel free to contact me.

What time does school start?

The official start time of school is 7:50 a.m. In fourth grade, students are picked up by their
teachers at 7:40 a.m., but the official "tardy" time is 7:50 a.m.
