Homework

Please check your child's planner each night for assigned homework. Sign
the planner and have your child return it to school along with any homework
the next day.

Your child will have a take-home folder. Homework sheets and other papers
will be in it. Please see that it is returned each day.

Math: There will usually be homework Monday, Tuesday, & Thursday. Check in
the planner to see what your child needs to do. Please check it and help your
child correct any errors. Sign and return it the next day. Help your child
memorize his/her addition and subtraction facts. There will usually be
timed drills each week.

Spelling: Your child will write his/her new words & sentences in his/her
notebook on Friday. This notebook is to come home every night and back to
school every morning. The homework instructions are taped inside the front
cover. Basically, your child is to practice the words each night and write
them in the notebook each Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday for
homework. I will check to see that this has been done and is part of the
student responsibility list that you will be getting. The test will be given
on Friday morning. Due to time constraints, make-up tests are usually not
given, but do not count against your child.

Reading: Your child will probably bring home a book from their reading group
each Monday through Thursday. Your child needs to practice reading the
book. They should be able to read it with very few if any mistakes. Please
sign the paper stating that your child read the book to you and return it
and the book the next day. If your child is in my Tier II group, he/she
will also bring home a folder Monday thru Thursday with a fluency passage to
read. Please listen to your child read the passage and help them improve
their rate, accuracy and expression as they read the passage. Sign on the
sheet indicating that your child practiced the passage.

Other: If there is any other homework, it will be written in the planner.

On weeks that I do not have afternoon duty, students in my care, will be
encouraged to work on homework or study math facts while waiting for buses to
be called, so if your child rides a late bus, his/her homework may be doneand
just needs to be checked over and signed by you when he/she gets home. When
I am looking after another class along with my class due to the other teacher
having afternoon we may watch an educational video while waiting for the
buses to arrive.
