****************WEEKLY ASSIGNMENTS (First Semester SY07-08)
*******************

17 Aug 07 (Wk 1):  Construct a 'double-buble' thinking map that compares and 
contrasts the Male and Female JROTC uniform.

24 Aug 07 (Wk 2):  Construct a 'double-bubble' thinking map that compares 
(similiarities) and contrasts (differences) JROTC with any other course you 
may be taking.

31 Aug 07 (Wk 3): Using the appropriate handout (thinking map) from 
the 'Handouts' folder, develop a thinking map that describes you as a 
person/student.

7 Sep 07 (Wk 4):  In addition to your weekly assignment, make sure you get 
your 'Parent Welcome Packet', pgs. 3,4,5,& 7 completed and turned in by 6 
Sep along with your $5 enrollment fee.  This week's assignment is to develop 
a thinking map describing your favorite subject (you must use handout 
printed from the 'handouts' folder on this website.

14 Sep 07 (Wk 5): Go to 'Handouts Folder' and redo Weeks 1 & 2 assignments 
using the appropriate handout from this folder.

21 Sep 07 (Wk 6):  Go to page 74 of JROTC Handbook, located in 'Handouts 
Folder' and review the eight (8) thinking maps on that page.  Print 
the 'sequencing' thinking map from the folder and then show the correct 
sequencing of the (8)thinking maps as they occur in the handbook on p. 74.  
Under each map, display the key word(s) that define(s) the map's purpose.

28 Sep 07 (Wk 7):  Using the proper thinking map, identify the parts of the 
male or female uniform in order from head to foot.  (HINT:  the belt does 
not come before the pants because you must have pants to wear the belt; also 
note that a white T-shirt is to be worn with the male and female uniforms.)

4 Oct 07 (Wk 8):  As a recap of the 1st 9-Week assignments, arrange all your 
assignments in order from week 1 - week 8 using the proper thinking map.  
First, identify the assignment purpose (i.e. compare & contrast two classes) 
then identify the type of map that was used for the assignment.) 

19 Oct 07 (Wk 10):  Use a TM (Thinking Map)to define the eight TM's using 
your TM handout as a resource. 

26 Oct 07 (Wk 11):  What are the causes of student fighting and arguments 
and what are the results of these disruptions.  Use a TM to identify these 
causes and effects.

2 Nov 07 (Wk 12):  Use the appropriate TM to define the components of the 
Class A uniform (LET-3 and above) or the Class B uniform (LET-1).  Refer to 
your Cadet Reference Guide, page 7, for assistance.  (HINT:  nine items 
should be identified)

9 Nov 07 (Wk 13):  Read the classroom handout (news article: " Teaching 
Children to respect Themselves...").  Use the appropriate TM to determine 
the causes and effects of of "disrespect".  Also, show the causes and 
effects of "respect".  Use a separate TM to show your responses.

16 Nov 07 (Wk 14):  Nov 12-16 is "Veterans' Appreciation/Recognition' Week.  
As such each of us freedoms that each of us experience today!!!! Present 
your 
tribute to them this week (make a copy to turn in to your AI for your weekly 
grade).

26 Nov 07 (Wk 15):  Today's youth/young adults are known as Generation Y 
or 'Gen Y'.  According to the internet article - "Gen Y:  The Innovation 
Generation?", found at Link #5 in the "Links" folder, a number of 
characteristics have been ascribed to this generation.  Develop a TM which 
describes 'Gen Y' as discussed in the article. ***(Also read the NEWSFLASH 
folder for info on your final exam.)***  

30 Nov (Wk 16):  Last week's assignment discussed your generation, 'Gen Y'. 
Many of your parents and maybe some of your grandparents are from the 'Baby 
Boomer' generation.  Compare & contrast these two generations using a TM.
(HINT:  Do an online search for 'baby boomer generation' to pull up websites 
for this information. List website used on your TM)....


   
*******************WEEKLY ASSIGNMENTS(Second Semester)*********************

11 Jan (Wk 1):  Complete double-bubble map assignment given in class 
pertaining to Senators Obama & Clinton.  

18 Jan (Wk 2):  Develop a "thinking map" that displays the chain of command. 
To complete this assignment correctly students have a choice of 3 maps -
(this means that only 3 of the 8 "thinking maps" shown on the thinking maps 
handout are appropriate for this assignment).  Map must show name of each 
person and his/her correct duty title, i.e., “Mr. Jones, Principal”.  Refer 
to Link 2, in the "Links" folder as appropriate.

25 Jan (Wk 3):  Briefly identify in several key words or phrases the primary 
function/responsibility of each person/position identified in the chain of 
command assignment completed during Wk 2.  Assignment to be complete on 
plain bond or notebook paper.  Check Handbook and various internet sites for 
info.

1 Feb (Wk 4):  Follow sample project format handout in Handout Folder and
compile assignments for "portfolio" entry. Put assignment one onto plain bond
as assignment two and incorporate into portfolio.  All remaining assignments
will be completed in this fashion for portfolio entry as well.

8 Feb (Wk 5):  Portfolio Development Continued... Select a completed 
assignment of your choice from one of your other Academic classes to place 
under Tab a.(6) in your portfolio.  This will complete this item of your 
portfolio as Wk 4 assignment was the 1st sampling of work to be included in 
your portfolio.

15 Feb (Wk 6):  Cadet Mission Statement--Complete in rough draft your mission 
statement by end of class Wed. Ensure that you take a realistic look at your 
goals and develop a mission statement that is reflective of your current 
goals for completion of high school or if a junior/senior identify what your 
goals are after high school.  Go to Handouts, download "Cadet Preamble" fill 
in using sample as a guide.  Use "present tense" (active) verbs when writing 
your goals. Print this out to be incorporated in your portfolio.

22 Feb (Wk 7):  Black History Month Project--Develop a "double-bubble" 
thinking map to compare and contrast two influential African American women 
of this century - Mrs. Coretta Scott King and Mrs.Rosa Louise Parks. Use
the Black History project handout to ensure that your project provides 
answers to the questions listed there.

29 Feb (Wk 8):  Black History Month Project II-- On 16 Feb 2006, the Hamilton 
County Commissioners decreed 27 Apr 2006 to be recognized as "Coretta Scott 
King Day". Develop a 150 word typed essay as to the significance of this day 
and whether or not you beleive it should become a National Holiday & why?

7 Mar (Wk 9) :  (PART 1 FOR LET 4,6,& 8's ONLY) PART 1:  Using your in-class 
assignment/presentation from this week (six LEAD questions), select one 
question of your choosing & expound upon its significance 
(importance,relationship) to the mission of the JROTC program as well as 
yourself as an individual.
