How do I put money in my child's lunch account?
Please send all lunch money in an envelope labeled with your child's name,
teacher's name and grade level. If paying by check, please put your child's
account number in the memo line. Otherwise, list it on the front of the
envelope. The child will give the money to the teacher, and she will turn
it in to the office.
May I send a treat for my child's birthday?
Absolutely! I love birthdays! Please either talk with me or send a note to
arrange a time. I do ask that you please mail any birthday invitations
unless you are inviting the whole class. This can cause hurt feelings.
May my child bring a snack?
Yes. We will have a snack time each day. Please send a ready-to-eat,
healthy snack with your child. Your child may also bring a water bottle.
What do I do if my child is sick?
If your child is running a fever or vomiting, please keep them at home. If
you would like, you may call the school office and let them know. I will
put any missed work in the office after 2:30 p.m. if you would like to pick
it up. Please send a note with your child on the day he/she comes back to
school explaining the reason for absence.
What are the reading vocabulary folders?
Each child has a reading vocabulary folder that is made out of a file
folder. This folder contains all of the words that we will be learning in
class this year. The first page of high frequency words are just
that...words that appear often when reading. Your child should be able to
recognize those by sight. You will need to send the signed folder back
every Friday to be checked. Then, I will send it back home with a check
mark indicating which words to study for the next week. If a word is
circled, that means that your child needs to study that word some more.
When are spelling tests?
Spelling tests will be given each Friday and a list of new words will be sent
home on that day.
What's the best way to practice spelling words?
Here are some ideas on how to practice: write spelling words 2 times each, spell words
orally, "rainbow words" (write each letter of the word with a different
color), type your words on the computer, take a practice test.
What is "Scientist of the Week?"
Every Friday I will send home the Fantastic First Grade Science Bag with a different student. In
the bag you will find the Fantastic First Grade Science Journal, a science experiment book,
goggles and a science apron. You and your your child will choose an experiment that he/she will
do for the class on the following Friday for the rest of the class. The experiment does not have
to come from the book. You can think of your own, look on the internet, or get ideas from other
books. You are welcome to come and watch your child do his/her experiment.
