KINDERGARTEN HERE WE COME (sung to the tune of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star)

Kindergarten,here we come!

We know we'll have lots of fun.

Lots of things to make and do.

Reading ,writing, counting too.

Kindergarten here we come! We know we'll have lots of fun!

COUNTDOWN TO KINDERGARTEN

When Mrs. Wright ,our school principal, has completed the class rolls I will prepare a letter to send to you and your kindergartener with the schedule for attendance and other relevant information during the first two weeks of our trasition to our full day program. We planned a gradual transition for entering into the busy and demanding kindergarten routine.

Your child will receive in the kindergarten mailing a COUNTDOWN TO KINDERGARTEN .Ten days prior to your child first day in kindergarten begin to color one star for each of the days before he attends school for the first time.

COUNTDOWN CHAINS

Cut several strips of construction paper and glue them together to make a paper chain with different sentences written or typed and glued on to the strips.(see suggestions below) The strips will have different chores or skills to practice each of the days prior to the beginning of kindergarten. You can make it a week long or longer depending on your child's interest. Let your child pick a strip each day and complete the task ,loop and connect the strip with glue to create a chain.

I encourage your child to bring the chain with him on the first day of school or any day after. Some suggested task to put on the strips are:

Label and pack your school backpack

Recognize your first and last name

Recite your address

Recite your phone number

Recite your birthday

Read a story about the first day of school.

Look on the computer at the school web site www.capshawcougars.com

GETTING READY FOR KINDERGARTEN BOOKLIST

These books may be available at the Putnam County Library or in your favorite bookstore! Reading to your child is an excellent way to help prepare your kindergartener for school. These books will be a springboard for discussions and questions about the changes and concerns that your kindergartener may have.
