For the week of November 23-24, 2009: HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!! Don't forget to
count your blessings!
Daily Language--None this week!
Next week--Week 15 . We begin each morning with Daily Language. Please
make sure your child is ON TIME so they don't get behind. This lesson covers
MANY language skills for 2nd grade. Our Daily Language quizzes
will usually be given on Friday. Each quiz will consist of several of the
sentences and examples done in class during that week. You can help your
child prepare by reviewing the weekly sheet sent home each Thursday.
MATH: We will continue working on MONEY. Practice counting change at home with
your child.
Remember to study for the Minus Doubles +1 SUBTRACTION FAST FACTS quiz for
next WEDNESDAY, December 2.
Many children did VERY WELL on the 100 Fast Facts Addition test. If
yours did not, practice is the only answer. The more you practice, the faster
you get. :-)
We will periodically have UNANNOUNCED quizzes on these addition facts. Keep
reviewing at home.

READING: We will be doing a unit on author Tomie dePaola during this short
week and all of next week. This is usually a favorite event for 2nd grade
students. We will use his books to correlate with our reading skills and do
lots of fun activities as well. There will not be a story for the reading
book during these 2 weeks. This is a PERFECT time to work on reading an A.R.
book every night to build your points.
ALL STUDENTS NEED TO BE READING WITH A PARENT AT HOME EVERY NIGHT TO BUILD
THEIR READING SKILLS.

SPELLING: NO SPELLING TEST THIS SHORT WEEK. Next week we will focus on words
from our Tomie dePaola unit. Please help your child study these words.
Our spelling test will be given on THURSDAY, December 3. The bonus word will
be "Tomie dePaola".
Remember to practice at home each night as needed.

ENGLISH/WRITING: We will be working on sentence parts--subjects and
predicates. We will continue to review nouns and verbs all year. We will
also do Journal writing.

Social Studies: Unit 4: People of Long Ago. We will be doing activities in
class for daily grades. Due to sickness and the Thanksgiving holiday, we will
NOT have a test on this unit. Please read lessons at home as time allows.
