FAQFrequently Asked Questions: This page contains answers to common questions of students and parents.
What do I do if my child is absent? Please call the office and ask for your child's work. I will have it in the office at 3:00. This will keep your child from falling behind. Please realize that sometimes it is not possible to do some of the things at home that are done in class. Make every effort to have your child at school each day unless he/she is truly sick. Children who attend school regularly perform better. When should I expect to see my child's completed and graded work? In 3rd grade, we send home a Monday folder each week. Parents are asked to review the graded papers with your child, sign the folder and any papers that are marked 70 or below, and return the folder and signed papers on Tuesday. Please keep all other papers. How will I know my child's grades? Review the Monday folder each week. I will send a progress report home in the middle of each nine weeks for you to review and sign. Report cards will go home at the end of each nine week period. What types of homework should I expect?
What time should my child arrive at school? Between 7:45-7:55. Students need a few minutes to put their backpacks away, hang up coats, and get ready for the day. We officially began the day at 8:00 so please get your child to school before 8:00. May I send treats for my child's birthday? If your child would like to bring in treats (such as cupcakes, cookies, or popsicles), that will be great! Please send those treats first thing in the morning. We will make time during the day to celebrate! Is it okay for my child to take a snack to school? Yes! Please send a nutritional snack. Students should not bring candy or chips. Chewing gum is not allowed. Please no peanut snacks this year. We have a student with a severe peanut allergy. It's fine to send a water bottle with your child. The water bottle should be taken home weekly to be washed. How can I schedule a conference with a teacher? Request a conference by calling the school office, 526-2414, and leaving a message for the teacher, emailing the teacher through the teacher's website, or send a note with your child. September 8 and February 9 are system-wide parent-teacher conference days; however, you may request a conference anytime during the school year. Do all Capshaw students use computers? Yes. Every class is scheduled for a 45- minute computer lab time once a week. In addition, grades 1-4 have iBook lab carts that are shared among the classrooms. |
