Nine weeks test looked really good. I was very proud to see the students
showing their work and doing the tricks they learned in class to ensure a
correct answer. They have been working very hard.
Over the break please keep working on the Multiplication and division.
If you guys go to study island and practice. Look on your assignment pages.
(the first page once you click the class) There are notes scheduled events
and links to this home page and other links that might help. Keep studying
hard.
The restesting will be offered Tuseday and
Wednesday of this week for those that want to retest the chapter test. The
test will come from the same material. They are to review all of their nine
weeks study guide.
Nine weeks test in Math will be Wednesday the October 1st. Reviews for this
test will come from chapter one and two and will be sent home starting
Monday.
Chapter two test tomorrow. They have a review sheet tonight that should have
all correct answers on it. They also are coming home with an extra review
sheet of models and comparing decimals.

We are at the end of chapter two. We have started to do lots of review and
practice to master these skills. Some students are still having a hard time
ordering decimals. Even though one number has more digits does not mean it
is larger.
ex.
.67 is less than .7 because if you line them up vertically and compare the
larges place value.
.67
.7
The tenths place is different and you can compare these two numbers. 7 is
larger than 6 so .7 is the largest number.
DECIMALS
Our objective is to be able to round and write in all three forms.
We should be able to order decimals as well.
Ordering Decimals
step one write the decimals vertically by their place value
ex. 1.34 ; 1.43 ; .45 ; 12
1.34
1.43
.45
12
step two compare starting at the left. The highest place value is the tens.
12 has 1 ten the rest of the numbers have 0. so 12 is the largest number.
moving to the ones place you have 1;1 and nothing. 1 is going to be the next
number you will compare. Since they are the same we move to the tenths place
for both numbers. There is a 3 and 4. 4 is the larger number so 1.43 will
come next. Then 1.34. Last will be .45
Example:
15.45 -standard form
10 + 5 + .4 + .05 - expanded form
fifteen and forty-five hundredths - word form

Hello everyone. Glad you came to visit my site.
We are working on a few things in Math. First we try to do Minute Math
everyday. This is a review and sometime can be an introduction into new
skills for the students. There is usually some basic facts, addition and
subtraction with regrouping and one TIPS problem. TIPS is a process the
students are getting familiar with on how to solve real word problems.TIPS
stands for
T-Thought
I-Information from the problem
P-the plan of action
S-the solution. Actually working the problem
For example:
A car cost $15,000 . A car with a air conditioner cost $16,400. How much did
the air conditioner cost?
The students would write.
T-subtract
I-car cost $15,000; car with air cost $16,400
P-subtract the car with air cost from the car cost.
s- $16,400
- $15,000
___________
$ 1,400 the cost of the air conditioner
Please encourage your students to do this with all word problems. Also, Make
sure they include the $ sign and ,.

Please continue to work on multiplication nightly. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT.
We still have some kids that do not know their multiplication and are
struggling with this. Please help them every night to memorize these facts.
Thank you for all you do to make your child sucessful.
Please check out Mrs. Brooke's Photo and Doc. Page for some great pictures
and Science stuff
