Dear Families,
November 23, 2009
Wow! It is so hard to believe that Thanksgiving is only a few days away! Please be checking your child’s folders and making sure that they are organized. Any tests that I send home please sign and return them the next day. Students will not be retested unless they score a 70 or below. Below are updates in each subject that I teach.
Social Studies~ Students need to be studying the Chapter 3 study guide. They will be tested over it tomorrow. They should also have their “People of the Civil War” test. We have taken this test twice now. I sent the first test home with them on Friday. They should have it and the re-test. Please go over this with them, sign, and send back tomorrow. Students that choose to retest for the LAST time may do so tomorrow. We discussed the “People of the Civil War” several times in class and have gone over the tests for correct answers. Students should also be working on their “Traveling Suitcase.” I have attached the project guidelines.
English~ we are covering the Verbs Unit. Students received a sheet that has is “All About Verbs.” They need to be able to tell you what a verb is, the 8 “being” verbs, and the 15 helping verbs. They are expected to know this the week that we come back from Thanksgiving break. Please look over the test that I’m sending home today. It needs to be signed and returned tomorrow.
Reading~ Students will be taking the second vocabulary test Friday, December 4th. We have gone over these in class. They should have their divided Circle Maps for each term. You can check out my website and find the terms in my Reading tab. Students will also be taking a Mid 9 Weeks Reading test Tuesday, December 1st. It will cover plot, main idea, and supporting details. Students should be able to tell you the Plot of each chapter that we have covered in our novel. Remember that Plot consists of problem, rising action, climax, falling action, and solution. They should also have the question sheets from each chapter that we have covered.
We are in need of the following items: Antibacterial Wipes, hand sanitizer, tissues, paper towels, Ziploc bags (gallon and sandwich size), and washable markers. Anything that is donated is greatly appreciated!
We are still taking books for the book drive. Students will receive Honey Bucks for any books that are donated! We have helped out several classroom libraries with donated books!!!
Please feel free to contact me by school email barnettk@caywood.org or by school phone 731-968-8457 extension 469. Thank you so much for all that you do! I’m truly blessed with a great group of students this year!!!
