Mission
EUROPEAN HISTORY: European HIstory at Cleveland is a great opportunity for our students. They can enroll either as an Advanced Placement student or as a Duel Enrollment student. Therefore, students can earn college credit either upon successful completeion of the national exam given by the College Board or by completing the requirement set out by our partner university or college. This course covers European history from the Renaissance to the present. Just as in World History, the students will explore Europe's history socially, economically, politically, and culturally but with greater attention to detail and practice of the historian's craft. MODERN WORLD HISTORY: Modern World History is generally available during a student's freshmen year. The chronological scope of the class is from around 1300-present. Withing this framework, students will be exposed to history on a global scale. Even so, due to time constraints the course will focus on Europe, Western, Southern, and East Asia, and Africa during Imperialism. The student will explore history through an examination of social, economic, and political structures, all the while becoming acquainted with the "grand narrative" of the world's past. ANCIENT WORLD HISTORY: This course is taught as a humanities course; which is to say, this course will include a history of the world from the rise of the great river-based civilizations to the High Medieval period in Europe but incorporating literature and art as supplements to assist the students in understanding these early peoples' humanity. Because of this focus the course takes-on a thematic tone. Generally this course is offered as an elective to sophomores juniors, and seniors.
