We will present our Spring Music Concert on Wednesday, May 16, at 1:30 PM in the elementary gym. K-5 music students, high school vocal music class, and band students will perform.
Last week, the vocal music class performed for residents of the Life Care Center in Wartburg, singing songs from a variety of styles, including folk, musicals, spirituals, and pop. We had a few student accompanists on guitar, and two of our students played instrumental solos on guitar and piano. It was a real blessing to share music with members of our community, and we plan to make this a part of our vocal music class each semester.
At the end of March, our band students were able to attend a band festival at Farragut High School. They had never seen a concert band festival before, and this was a great opportunity for them to see what one is like and to hear performances by several high school bands. Although we did not perform, we intend to do so next spring.

The band is having a pancake breakfast fundraiser in the school cafeteria on Saturday, February 18, from 8 to 11 AM. The cost is $5. Money raised will go toward instrument repairs and the purchase of new equipment.
Wartburg Central Middle School will host a FREE concert featuring the Army Field Band of Washington, D.C., on Tuesday, February 28, at 7 PM. We will meet at Central Middle School. This is a great opportunity to hear a professional music group. Did I mention it's FREE?

Our Christmas concert will be Tuesday, December 13, at 1:30 PM in the new gym. K-5 music students, high school vocal music class, and band students will perform.

This weekend is Coalfield's community homecoming, and many activities are planned. Relevant to our music students, the band will march in the parade on Saturday at 11 am, and we will have a table set up at the park for selling band t-shirts, DVDs, and tickets to Sunday's Alumni Dinner. The band will also play a few tunes during the event on Sunday, which begins at 12:30 pm.

Parent-teacher conferences are today after school, from 3:30 to 6:30. There will be a band meeting in the music room from 5 to 5:30. We will discuss the upcoming fundraiser and other events.

The new school year is upon us, and I'm excited to see the students back at school tomorrow. There are some new things in the music department this year, including a new high school vocal music class, a change in my elementary class schedule, and a second-year band that will play at home football games, as well as a new beginning band that will be open to students from fourth grade through high school. There will be a Band Parent Night next Wednesday, August 10, at 6 pm in the school cafeteria for all new and returning band students and their parents, to provide them with information about the band program. A representative from Lunsford's Music will be here to talk about rental instruments for those students that need them.
