Frequently Asked Questions: This page contains answers to common questions of students and parents.
A phase-in day is when only a few students come each day to help them get adjusted to the me, Mrs. Rogers, the room and schedule. This gives me a chance to get to know your child, and to better explain the rules and procedures of school, to spend more one-on- one time with each child to make sure they know the routine and feel comfortable with their first school day.Back to Top

When is my child counted tardy or absent?
The tardy bell ring at 8:15. If your child enters the room after the bell, they are counted tardy. Tardies can also accumalate if you check your child out early. Several tardies can add up to a day of absence. Your child will be counted present for the day if they are there until 11:30. If they come for the morning, but leave before this time, that will be a day of absence on their record.Back to Top
How do I set up a conference with you (Mrs. Shelton)?
I am here as a partner in your child's education. I do however, need your consideration when it comes to meetings. Please allow one week's notice for a meeting. I will always try to respond to a note you send in within a day (e-mail is the best way to contact me). If it is URGENT, say so and I will try to call. Conferences are best schelued during my planning periods. Afternoon meetings are difficult, as I have my own children with me. Please keep in mind... what you expect me to do for your child, twenty other parents are expecting the same thing. I truly want to give you and your child the best kindergarten experience, but I am only one person and have to keep the welfare of the entire class in mind. I thank you for your cooperation.Back to Top
Our pick-up station is on the playground side of the building at the double glass doors. We will be ready by 2:50, each day. Please have your car tag with you. It is easier to send the children out if their name is visible. It is also mandatory that you have the sign or you will be asked to go into the office and sign your child out. If you are in a hurry, I suggest you park in the lot and walk up to the pick-up station. It will save you time and reduce the congestion of traffic. If you are choosing to pick-up your child earlier than 2:50, you must go through the office. They will call the room and your child will meet you in the office. If your child rides the bus, they will be walked down by the assistant at 3:00.Back to Top
When should I NOT send my child to school?
The dates for staff development and work days are on the School systems' calendar (those dates are highlighted in blue). You may find it at www.clevelandschools.org. All holidays and dates that the buildings are closed is posted there and on my web-site calendar. Please do NOT send your child if they have vomitted, had diarrhea, or ran a fever with in 24 hours. If you've had to give medication to stop or prevent the above illnesses, your child is still considered ill. They need to be off medication and well for a MINIMUM of 24 hours before returning to school. These precautions are taken to keep your child and the other children healthy.Back to Top
You are allowed to miss school 10 times with a parent excuse (you write a note). If your child had to go to the doctor, dentist or other appointment, get an excuse from the professional treating him/her. These absences are excused. Any absences above the 10 parent notes are grounds for truency investigation. Once your child reaches an excessive number of tardies or absences, you will receive a letter for Ms. Ingram. If the absences or tardies continue, you may be called for truency court, and may result in judical action.Back to Top
What will my child learn this year?
You can go to the school systems home page and click on curriculum or the state's website to review the curriculum (located on my "Link page"). At the parent meeting I also gave you a copy of the kindergarten report card. This "standards based" report card addresses all the skills issued by the state. Finally, you will receive a letter each week outlining the skills being taught.Back to Top
What is the best way to contact you ( Mrs. Shelton)?
I have to check my e-mail a few times a day, as this is the method in which Ms. Ingram sends out memos. Since I am checking it a few times a day, this is the best means of communication with me. I have an e-mail link in the upper right corner of my home page. However, if you are sending a message that is urgent, such as a transportation change, please call the school office and leave a note (479-1723).Back to Top
