From specialized online classes to specific societies and talent searches,
this page lists a wide variety of opportunities for gifted students in the
middle school. I've been told that exams must be proctored-the closest center
is Tech.

Expanding Your Horizons (EYH)
-October 31, 2009. This is a one day science and math conference for middle
school girls. Hosted at MTSU, girls spend a day with professional women who
work in math and science occupations in order to learn more about career
opportunities and to meet other girls interested in math and science.

Education Program for Gifted Youth (EPGY)
"The Education Program for Gifted Youth (EPGY) at Stanford University is a
continuing project dedicated to developing and offering multimedia
computer-based distance-learning courses. Combining technical and
instructional expertise, EPGY provides high-ability students of all ages with
an individualized educational experience, optimized in both pace and content.
Through EPGY, students have access to courses in a variety of subjects at
levels ranging from kindergarten through advanced-undergraduate. Since its
inception over 50,000 students from 35 countries have taken courses from
EPGY."

The Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth
-This is a talent search for 7th grade students with exceptional mathematical
and/or verbal abilities. Students who qualify are invited to participate in a
variety of distance learning programs, museum days, and summer programs.
Seventh graders take the SAT I. A pre-qualifying standardized achievement test
is required.

Brigham Young University offers a wide variety of online (or paper)independent
study courses for MS, HS, or college.  Most classes run about $125.
BYU Independent Study Courses

Duke University's 7th grade talent search
"The Talent Search identifies academically talented 7th graders based on
standardized test scores achieved while attending elementary or middle school.
Candidates are identified and invited to complete either the SAT Reasoning
Test or the ACT Assessment college entrance examination. Duke TIP then
provides the participants with comparative information concerning their
academic abilities and resources for unique educational opportunities."

National Society for the Gifted and Talented
-A membership program designed for exceptional students in grades K-12.  NSGT
provides a variety of resources and information about programs and
opportunities for gifted children to excel.  Students are also presented with
an official certificate.

Continental Mathematics League
-This is NOT just for math!  Students can become part of a league that offers
competitions and ways to cultivate their interests in any of the following
areas: Current Events, Geography, Language Arts, Science, Social Studies and Math
