My name is Mia Monroe, and I currently serve as the school counselor for
Dresden Elementary. I have a Bachelor's degree in Education, a Master's
degree in Education with an emphasis in School Counseling, and an
endorsement in Administration and Supervision. This is my seventh year at
this wonderful school, and I look forward to many more enjoyable years to
come.
My husband, Mike, and I are the proud parents of two sons and a Sheltie
named Splash. My hobbies include reading, scrapbooking, and spending time
with my friends and family.
In addition to weekly class meetings, the counseling program at
D.E.S. offers a wide range of services to students and parents. Some
of these services are individual counseling, small group counseling,
and parent conferences.
Individual counseling is available to students and designed to help
them work one-on-one with any personal issues they may have. A
student may self-refer or be referred by a teacher or family member.
Small group counseling is available to students that are experiencing
similar issues such as behavior management, family changes (grief and
divorce), and self-esteem. Often times, students benefit from being a part
of a small group because it helps them to understand that they are not alone
and assists them in coping with their feelings.
