The East Literature Magnet High School Information Center is a teaching
facility which works to equip students with life-long learning skills that
develop the imagination, and enable students to live as responsible
citizens.

The Mission of the School Library

The Library Information Center provides books, and resources within a
learning environment which supports the curriculum and maintains the goal
that all members of the school community will grow as critical thinkers, as
well as, effective users of information in all formats and media.

The library staff support the use of books and other information sources,
ranging from the fictional to the documentary, from print to electronic,
both on-site and remote. The materials complement and enrich textbooks,
teaching materials, and methodologies.

Library staff and teachers collaborate and frame teaching within the library
to insure that students achieve higher levels of literacy, reading,
learning, problem-solving, research, as well as, communication and
technology skills. This collaborative effort focuses on teaching within a
framework which is designed to encourage higher order thinking skills and
life skills rather than provide just information. Indeed this library is
first and foremost a teaching facility.
