1st Period Class

6th Grade Math
1st Nine Weeks Syllabus

Class Description: The areas of mathematics that will be covered in the 
sixth grade are Number and Operations; Algebraic Thinking; Real World 
Problem Solving; Data Analysis and Probability; Measurement; and Geometry. 
Knowledge will be gained through the textbook, math labs, and technological 
sources. 

Areas Being Covered: Number Sense, Patterns, and Operations

Standards to be covered:
•	Use estimation to select a reasonable solution to compare numbers
•	Solve real world equations
•	Apply order of operation when computing whole numbers
•	Extend geometric and numerical patterns
•	Evaluate Algebraic expressions for a given value of the variable
•	Identify place value of a given digit
•	Identify prime and composite numbers up to fifty
•	Connect numbers on a number line

Assessments:
Student progress toward the standards will be assessed through daily 
assignments, quizzes, tests, and activities. Quizzes may be announced or 
unannounced. A test will be given upon the conclusion of each unit of study. 

Grading:
Grades will fall within these categories: classwork, homework, and test and 
quizzes. Any projects that are assigned will count as a test grade. Test and 
quizzes are counted twice.
