STANDARDS
Foreign Language Spanish 2
*COMMUNICATION:
•	States opinions and preferences on a variety of topics (e.g.
gustar,encantar, interesar, indirect objects pronouns and placement,present
subjunctive with impersonalexpressions).
•	Makes simple requests (e.g. affirmative and negative formal and 
        informal commands).
•	Asks and responds to general questions.
•	Begins to identify main ideas.
•	Recognizes linguistic patterns and cognates.
•	Identifies key words and phrases within text.
•	Follows oral and written directions, commands, requests (commands,directs
objects, indirect objects, double objects and placement for all pronouns in
relation to commands, present and subjunctive for wants and wishes.

*CULTURE:
•	Identifies geographical features of countries, and major cities in (e.g.,
food, clothing, housing, transportation, language, art).
•	Explores current attitudes among the youth in Spanish-speaking 
        countries.
•	Evaluates commonly held generalizations about the culture studied.


*CONNECTIONS:
•	Discuss information and skills acquired in foreign language class to other
disciplines.
•	Reinforces knowledge of the English language within the study of 
        cognates, roots words, grammar, and vocabulary in Spanish (All    
        regular and irregular forms of the present tense including
tener,hacer, and poner, all regular and irregular forms of the preterite tense
including -car, -gar, -zar, verbs,  I-Y verbs, ir, ser, hacer, dar, ver,
tener, stem changing verbs, subjunctive versus infinitive, progressive tenses,
irregular present subjunctive).
•	Uses technology to gain access to information and perspectives
        available through the study of foreign language.
•	Acquires and discusses limited information from authentic sources in Spanish
to identify perspectives unique to Spanish-speaking cultures.
*COMPARISONS:

•	Identifies similarities and differences in written language (e.g.,
alphabet/characters, punctuation, and capitalization, reflexive    
        verbs,comparisons and superlatives) and begins to compare and 
        contrast structural differences within the Spanish language and those
of one’s own language.
•	Identifies and explains issues related to family, race, class, 
        religion, and gender in the Spanish-speaking culture compares them to
one’sown.

*COMMUNITIES:
•	Interacts with Spanish-speakers using appropriate formal and 
        informal language through practice within and beyond the classroom.
•	Gains knowledge of literacy, musical, artistic, political and social
contributions of Spanish-speakers in the U.S. and the world.
•	Identifies occupations within the community and beyond that require
proficiency in Spanish.


These 1st 9 weeks, our objectives are:  

To review Spanish 1 concepts, vocabulary, exchange greetings, discuss
likes/dislikes, describe people/places, leisure time activities,  numbers,
colors, days of the week, months of the year and time.  Special emphasis will
be given to forming commands, various parts of speech,
masculine/feminine/singular/plural forms, and interrogative words. 

Students will-

·	conjugate regular/irregular verbs in the present and preterite (past) tenses. 
·	Apply direct objects as a substitution for an item.
·	Make equal/unequal comparisons (and superlatives)
·	Determine proper usage of saber v. conocer

Writing:  Creating commands

Reading:  Reading strategies (cognates, context, main ideas, summary)
	  Spanish newspapers (Latino, El Crucero)

Speaking: directed response questions, focused pronunciation, commands
Culture:  Geography, immigration, current events, Hispanic communities in the US.
