What about Ms. M?!

I teach 5th grade Math, Social Studies, and Science to the most amazing
students!

Here's a little bit about me:

I was born in Iowa City, IA and lived in
North Liberty, IA the first few years of my life. My family and I moved to
Nashville in 1987. I grew up in Mt. Juliet and attended Wilson County
Public
Schools, St. Joseph Elementary, and Father Ryan High School.

My BS is in Food and Nutrition from the University of Alabama. While in
college, I was offered the amazing opportunity to teach Nutrition to teen
girls at Camp La Jolla, in La Jolla, CA. After pursueing this opportunity,
I
knew my true calling was to teach. After graduating, I returned to
Nashville
to pursue my graduate degree in Elementary Education from Peabody College of
Vanderbilt University.

This is my third year teaching, and my third year at East Literature
Magnet.
I consider myself to be so incredibly lucky to be blessed with such an
amazing staff and students here at East. I welcome each and everyone of you
to East and to my classroom. Please know that my door is always open for
your questions and/or concerns.

My Mission for this year

My teaching mission is to coach students and watch them grow academically,
socially, and emotionally as a community. To serve as a role model to all
students, teachers, and other members of our school community. To
continually exude enthusiasm, optimism, self-confidence, and reverence for
my
students' potential. My mission is also to ensure that learning is the
central focus of my classroom, and that my classroom is a safe and orderly
environment which is conducive to learning. I expect the very best from my
students and remember that they are in the process of becoming. My goal is
to help them become, to discuss with them what they can do to make our
school
and themselves the best they can be. Increasing student success is my
overall reason for teaching, my mission is to achieve it!
