Parents, Our class was filmed for a Channel 9 News Special, which will be aired the week of December 21-27. It will begin at 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 22nd. I was awarded Educator-of-the-Week for the Channel 9 viewing area. Apparently, some of my former students/parents sent in letters asking that I be considered for this award. I am humbled, as well as honored. This award could have gone to any teacher because we all do our best everyday to love, guide, and direct children. If you miss it on TV, you can view it on newschannel9.com throughout that week. We will continue collecting food and toiletry items for our Christmas basket until December 15th. Thank you to all who have already sent items and to those are sending them tomorrow, December 15th. Congratulation to Ely Parker! Ely was selected as our "Caring" character trait representative for the month of December. Ely is such a caring little guy! His heart is as big as Texas, and he wants everyone to have all the things they need and want. He willingly shares his supplies and has even brought extras for those who may need them. Ely is very deserving of this award, as are all the children in this class. However, we can choose only one each month. Thank you for sending me such wonderful children every single day. Everyone needs to be here each day around 8:00. A student is considered late if he/she is not in his/her seat by 8:15. Student meals each day this year are as follows: Breakfast $1.25 Lunch $2.00 Juice/Milk $.50 Adult Meals each day this year are as follows: Breakfast $2.00 Lunch $3.75 Holiday Meals $5.00 Sneakers are required for gym everyday. Sneakers are also best for recess. (No flip-flops, please) Fridays are ICE CREAM days! If you want your child to be able to purchase ice cream in the cafeteria, please be sure he/she has money in his/her account or pocket. Ice cream is $.50 each. This is a great incentive for making good choices throughout the week. Your child will be bringing home a paperback reader every night to share with you. Please have him/her read it to you several times. Your child should be able to return to school each day with the book, ready to read it confidently, fluently, and with inflection. Perfect practice at home will help accomplish this goal. (I say 'Perfect practice' because practicing it correctly is different from just practicing.) Please help and encourage good reading, not just word calling. The more time you invest in your child's education at home, the better he/she will feel about his/her day at school. Remember to sign the "Log" each night; it will indicate to me that you have listened to/helped your child with the book. Anytime you see that your child is struggling with schoolwork, please provide a little extra help at home. It will let him/her know you are aware of the struggle and that you want to be helpful. Don't let little problems become big ones. Remember: Each day is the foundation for the next. Thank you so much for your cooperation and support.
