The Gleason Middle School Math Club is in its 2nd year. To be eligible for membership in the math club a student must maintain an 85 or above math average each six weeks. Each eligible student pays $3 membership dues. On Monday, September 18th, we held our 2nd annual ST. JUDE MATH-A-THON in the school cafeteria from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. We each worked approximately 250 math problems and enjoyed refreshments during the work time. Twenty-three students participated and raised $993.30 in donations and pledges. The following students received certificates for raising up to $35.00: 6th graders: Ivy Maupin, Jaclyn Montgomery, Briana Jones 7th graders: Braden Stafford, Emily Terrell, Alex King, Whitley Stewart, 8th graders: Sara Hensley, Audrea Martin. The following students received certificates and T-shirts for raising $35 to $74: 6th graders: Danica Cissell, Christine Hill, Paige Lowry, Tucker Kail, 7th graders: Sarah Passeri, Haley Swafford, Chandler Beasley, Hollie Townes, 8th graders: Heather Bowles, Brianna Carden. The following students received certificates, T-shirts, and backpacks for raising $75 or more: 6th graders Blake Taylor, Austin Perry 8th grader Libby Johnson. Blake Taylor raised the highest amount: $125.00 and Austin Perry raised the second highest amount $116.00. Congratulations to everyone who participated in a very worthy cause: Helping someone help themselves.
