I am Doris Deck Owen, the daugther of Robert Deck and the late Thelma
Campbell Deck. I completed an Early Childhood Education Degree in 1980 at
UTM. I began teaching at Gleason School the fall of 1980.I completed my
masters in education at Trevecca University in 2004.
At 21 I married Eric Lyle Owen on Thanksgiving Day, November 27, 1980
after dating 6 years. We have been married for 28 years. We were blessed
with four beautiful children, Erica Dawn, Ellen Ruth, Samuel Lyle, and James
Monroe. My oldest child, Erica is married to Casey Ross. She just completed
her Masters in Psychology and works with children. Ellen will graduate from
King College in May 2009 and plans to attend Optometery School in Memphis.
Sam is majoring in Electrical Engineering at Tennessee Tech University.
James is a sophomore at Gleason School.
While at Gleason I have taught second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, and
Title 1. I love and enjoy teaching. My favorite part of teaching is seeing
the excitement on a child's face when they learn to read.
My mission is simple. The goal is that all students learn to read and
develop a love for school.
