| Hello,
My name is Sheila Patterson and I am the new School Counselor for Gleason
Jr. High & High School. I wanted to tell you a little about myself and let
you know some of my plans for the year.
I live in Trenton with my husband, Steven, and our three children. Our
children, Summer age 14, Samantha age 13, and Skylar age 7; keep us running
with all of their extracurricular activities from cheerleading, band,
soccer, to horseback riding. As you can see we stay pretty busy! I
have lived in Trenton since I was 4 years old and graduated from Peabody
High School a few years ago. (I'll not tell how many years ago!) I
received my Bachelors degree from UT Knoxville and then after working for
about 7 years went back to UT Martin to get my Masters degree in School
Counseling. I have previously worked for the Humboldt City School System
for three years, and this is my second year with Weakley County.
I plan to spend time in the classroom with the 6th-8th grades at least once
a month, and as often as possible with 9th-12th grades. My plans (for the
Jr. High) are to do guidance lessons on topics the students express an
iterest in wanting more information on, as well as topics such as
bullying, drug and alcohol prevention, abstinence, career development, etc.
With my High School students I will be spending much of my classroom time
discussing career development and preparing for after High School. I also
will have my Juniors (and hopefully Sophmores and Freshman) complete
personal interest inventories on the Kuder Career Development program that
the state has provided for all public schools in our state. This program
will allow them to identify where their interests lie in regards to career
opportunities, build resumes, and build their own personal career portfolio
that they can access for the rest of their life.
If you have any questions about any of this, or if you would like to meet
with me, please don't hesitate to call me and arrange a time. Our phone
number is 648-5351.
Sincerely,
Sheila Patterson
