Can my daughter or son earn college credit by taking JROTC at GHS? Yes! Please refer to college credit policy letter in the "Handouts" section of this website for further information. Does enrolling in AFJROTC committ the student to any military obligation? No. This is a citizenship class. Students will learn how the USAF and DoD fit into our system of government, but it teaches the student the value of citizenship and how valuable our rights are as U.S. Citizens. What type of school credit do the students get in JROTC? If a student is in for only one term they will get an academic elective. If a student is in for 2 or longer they will receive a P.E. credit (core credit). Will JROTC help the cadet earn a military scholarship? Yes. However the student will have to qualify for the applied college. Currently, USAF scholarship selection for JROTC cadets is about 65%. What are the benefits if my child decides to enlist in the military? Any JROTC student with 2 or more successfull terms will qualify for advanced rank upon completion of basic training. All branches of service will award advanced rank with the recommendation of the instructor staff. How will JROTC help me if I decide to go into college ROTC? If you complete more than three terms of JROTC you may be able to skip your first year of senior ROTC. By taking JROTC you are more likely to receive a Senior ROTC scholarship. What, if any fees are required for taking JROTC? A small uniform cleaning fee is required at the beginning of the term. This fee is for the final cleaning of the uniform at the end of the term. Currently the fee is $25.00. Fee waivers do apply. |
