When is a child with an IEP eligible for the Alternative Learning Program?
An M-Team comprised of teachers, administrators, and the ALP staff will make
the determination when a student's best interests can be served by placement
at ALP. The special services provided in the IEP must be continued in the
Alternative Learning Program.
--------------------------------------
How do I get to school?
Parents are responsible for their own child's transportation to and from
school each day they are assigned to ALP.
--------------------------------------
Will parent involvment be allowed at ALP?
It is most essential to have meaningful parent participation and support in
an effective Alternative Learning Program. Parents are encouraged to
participate in discussion sessions with the staff about their child's
behavior and progress in the program. More formal opportunities have been
planned for parent participation in training activities under the leadership
of the alternative learning staff with emphasis placed on the child's
success in the program.
--------------------------------------
Can I attend regular school activities such as ballgames, dances, etc?
You are not allowed to participate in regular school activities while you
are assigned to ALP.
--------------------------------------
Will I be with only people in the same grade as I am?
Students of different abilities are able to work as a team, develop real
life community skills, and be able to meet challenging opportunites using
basic skills such as critical thinking. Self esteem will be enhanced and
higher expectations will be established to enable students to see the
connection between knowing and doing the right thing.
--------------------------------------
How will my success be evaluated while I am at ALP?
You will have an individual plan for success that will adequately measure
your progress while in this program. The ALP staff will remain in constant
contact with your regular education teachers to determine what type of
instruction is appropriate for you.
