Weight Training Syllabus

Instructor: Steve McCurry & Eddie Spradlen

Class Description: At Greeneville High School, the strength and conditioning program is
designed to develop the total person. We focus our training to develop all aspects of total
fitness. The areas in which we work to improve include speed, strength, agility, flexibility,
conditioning, and kinesthetic awareness.

Class Objective: We believe by providing the students with a structured, intense, and
enthusiastic program, they will be encouraged to work harder and more diligently to develop
their total body fitness. Our goal is to develop students mentally and physically to reach
their maximum athletic potential.

Course Outline: The foundation of the weight program is free weight training. Our strength
program includes core exercises such as bench press, squat, hang clean, and is supplemented by
various exercises with free weights, machines, and medicine balls.

Materials Needed:
Tennis Shoes
Socks
T-Shirts (No Sleeveless)
Shorts or Sweats

Classroom rules and expectations will be given to you along with the grading procedures. There
is to be absolutely no food, drinks, or chewing gum in the weight room. Dressing out every day
and hard work will weigh heavily in the final grade. Each student will max out at the beginning
of each nine weeks as well as the end of the block to show improvements on reps and total
weight.

Grading Procedure: Each student starts out with a 100 average. As long as the students dress
out and participate in the class they will keep the 100. If a student does not dress out for
class, 3 points will be deducted from his or her grade. If a student dresses out but does not
participate in class, points will be deducted from his or her grade depending on the amount of
effort the student displays in
class.
