Deadline dates are given if they have been provided with the information. Where applicable, links to online applications and information will follow scholarship description. Scholarship entries will be deleted from the list as the deadlines pass. Deadlines will also be posted on the appropriate grade level calendars. Preference is given to relatives of members of the Nolachuckey Chapter of the DAR. Applications are available in guidance and are due to Carolyn Gregg by March 15, 2009. The Mary Hurley Wells Memorial Scholarship is a $1,000 award sponsored by the Nolachuckey Chapter of the DAR and is open to Greeneville and Greene County seniors who will be continuing their education at a college, university, or technical school. Applications can be picked up in the guidance office and must be submitted to the DAR by March 15, 2009. The Jane B. Monger Scholarship is open to seniors planning on pursuing a degree in English or an English related field. The scholarship is a $1,000 one-time scholarship. Applicants must possess at least a 2.0 GPA and applications must be turned into Mrs. Thompson in guidance no later than April 1, 2009. Best Buy @15 Scholarship Program recognizes students grades 9-12 who have a minimum GPA of 2.5, demonstrate a commitment to comunity service or work experience and plan to enter a full-time undergraduate course of study after high school. Scholarships of $1,500 each will be granted to 1,000 students. Apply on-line at https://bestbuy.scholarshipamerica.org no later than February 15, 2009.
Scholarships of $7,500 await 25 outstanding scholar athletes in grade 12 nationwide who complete the online application to compete in the Scholars Athlete Milk Mustache of the Year (SAMMY) awards program. Judging is based on academic performance, athletic excellence, leadership, community service and a submitted short essay about "How Milk Has Helped in My Academics and/or Athletics". The online application is open now through March 6, 2009. sammy.bodybymilk.com American Planning Association High School Essay Contest is open to juniors and seniors who are interested in investigating and developing an historic preservation plan for our community. Two $5,000 scholarships will be awarded. Essays can be submitted by email by January 15 or postmarked by January 10, 2009. www.planning.org/essay/index.htm The Tennessee Association of Conservation Districts is wanting to award six $500 TACD Memorial Scholarships to graduation seniors who plan to major in Agriculture and have been accepted to a Tennessee college or university. Applicants must complete the application, attach their high school transcript and write a brief statement of their agricultural career goals. Applications must be postmarked by February 13, 2009.
Seniors who are planning to attend Walters State Community College full-time in the fall, have a minimum GPA of 2.9 and at least a 19 ACT are eligible to apply for WSCC Scholarships. An on-line application may be submitted by clicking here. Deadline for paper or on-line application submission is March 15, 2009. www.ws.edu. Graduating seniors from Greeneville High School, West Greene, North Greene and South Greene High Schools, Chuckey Doak High School or a Greene County resident with a GED are eligible to apply for the Fund for Greene County Scholarship. The $1,500 grant is awarded on the basis of financial need, desire to pursue a post secondary education, community service and an academic record of at least a 2.5 GPA. Graduating Greeneville High School seniors with a minimum GPA of 3.0, who intend to major in the fine arts, commercial arts or media arts in college, should consider applying for the Karolyn King Carter Scholarship. Selection of the $1,500 award winner is based on artistic abilities, academic merit and financial need. Applications are to be postmarked by February 20, 2009. easttennesseefoundation.org/grants/scholarships.html The Coach Jack Blair Scholarship is open to graduating seniors who have been members of the Lady Devil's basket ball team, have at least a 2.0 GPA and plan to pursue a post secondary education. The applicant should exemplify good character and leadership and possess a positive motivation and work ethic. The scholarship is a one-time award of $750. The Janice M. Scott Memorial Scholarship was set up in memory of Ms. Scott who died on Flight 77 on the morning of September 11, 2001. Six $2,500 scholarships are award to seniors who demonstrate leadership through participating in community service, extra curricular or other activities, maintain a 2.5 GPA or higher and who are planning to attend a US accredited four-year college or university in the fall of 2009. Applicants will write a 500-1000 word essay on "What do Freedom and Justice Mean" to him/her. Completed applications and requested materials must be postmarked by March 31, 2009. Questions can be addressed at geraldine@starpower.net . The Society of Professional Journalist Essay Contest is open to all students grades 9 -12. National awards will be given in the amounts of $1,000 (1st Place), $500 (2nd Place), and $300 (3rd Place). Entries must be 300 to 500 words on the topic "Why Free News Media are Important" and must be accompanied by an entry form signed by a sponsoring teacher. Entries must be postmarked by March 4, 2009. www.spj.org/a-hs.asp College Goal Sunday is a non-profit program that provides free information and assistance in completing the FAFSA form. The FAFSA is required to be completed in order to receive many scholarships offered through the Tennessee Student Assistance Corp, one of which is the HOPE Scholarship. College Goal Sunday will be held at Tusculum College on February 22, 2009 beginning at 2:00 pm. www.tn.gov/CollegeGoalSunday The $1,000 Greene County Livestock Association Scholarship is awarded to a senior who is a native of Greene County and is from an agricultural background. This student also must be planning to pursue a field of study in college which is agricultural in nature and be maintaining a GPA of 3.0 or higher in high school. Applications can be picked up in guidance and must be postmarked no later than January 20, 2009 or emailed to morr3@utk.edu no later than January 23, 2009. ETSU General University Scholarship applications and information are in the guidance office and online at www.etsu.edu/scholarships/general . On the application students must list the individual name of each scholarship for which they want to be considered. Requirements for each scholarship varies per scholarship. Applications for General University Scholarships must be received by the ETSU Scholarship Office by March 1, 2009. Applications and information are now available in the guidance office and online for ETSU Academic Performance Scholarships. Guaranteed Academic Performance Scholarships are awarded to enter freshman with a 28+ ACT and a GPA of 3.5 or above. Eligible students must complete the admissions application process by December 15, 2008 to be eligible for the guaranteed scholarship and do not need to have submitted a scholarship application. The Competitive Academic Performance Scholarship recipients should have at least a 26 ACT and a minimum GPA of 3.5. and submit a scholarship application by February 15, 2009. www.etsu.edu/scholarships/academic.asp
The Ayn Rand Anthem Essay Contest is for 9th and 10th grade students. First prize is $2,000. Check in the guidance office or online at the Ayn Rand website for essay topics and rules. Essays cam be submitted online or by mail, but must be submitted by March 20, 2009. The Ayn Rand Fountainhead Essay Contest is for 11th and 12 grade students. First prize is $10,000. Check in the guidance office or online at the Ayn Rand website for essay topics and rules. Essays cam be submitted online or by mail, but must be submitted by April 25, 2009. The Albert Lee Wright, Jr Memorial Migrant Scholarship is given to honor a migrant farmworker student who is interested in pursuing a career in journalism, the teaching of journalism or in political science. Eligible students are children of migrant workers that have a recent history of movement for agricultural employment, have high academic acheivement and have financial need. A completed application must be submitted by March 16, 2009. Bethel College, in McKenzie, TN, is proud to offer the Hendrix Scholarship Competition to student wishing to attend Bethel College and have at minimum GPA of 3.25 and at least a 24 ACT. The competition is a two day event in February where students are tested in their academic ability. The winner earns a full tuition, room and board scholarship. The runner up receives a full tuition scholarship and other competitors will be considered for institutional grants. Apply online and have supplemental materials sent by February 16, 2009. www.bethel-college.edu/admissions/hendrix Seniors planning on majoring in music and considering Gardner-Webb in North Carolina as their college choice are eligible to apply for music scholarships valued at $20,000 over 4 years. To apply online and check the audition schedule go to www.gardner-webb.edu/academics/departments/finearts/index.html . No application deadline was given. If you are an aspiring artist, musician, or actor you may qualify for one of the Rhodes College Fine Arts or CODA Fellowships. These are 12,500 per year awards. To apply complete and submit the General Registration Form and the individual Audition/Application Form(s) for your desired fellowship program(s) by January 5, 2009. You must also submit a completed admissions application by January 15. rhodes.edu/finaid/614.asp If you are interest in physics the Jack H. Taylor Fellowship in Physics is awarded to one applicant who will be attending Rhodes College in Memphis, TN in the fall. This is a $15,000 per year award. To apply you must complete and submit an application for admission and the scholarship application by January 15, 2009. rhodes.edu/finaid/1413.asp Rhodes College in Memphis, TN offers the Bonner Scholarship each year to 15 incoming freshman. This award is valued at 12,500 per year. To be eligible you must apply to Rhodes College, have an ACT of 27 or higher, be in the top 15% of your senior class, have an exceptional record of leadership, community service and/or social justice work and have an EFC of $7,500 or less. Applications must be submitted by January 15, 2009. rhodes.edu/finaid/611.asp The Elks National Foundation Legacy Award Scholarship is open to any high school senior who is the child or grandchild of a living Elk who joined the order on or before April 1, 2006. The scholarship is a four-year award of $4,000 and is awarded to applicants that are going on to college and exhibit the core values of the Elks National Foundation: Knowledge, Charity, Community and Integrity. The Elks National Most Valuable Student Scholarship is open to any high school senior. Applicants are judged on scholarship, leadership and financial need and males and females compete separately for identical awards. Completed applications must be received in the local Elks Lodge before January 9, 2009. You get more information and award amounts by going to the Elks national website.
The Greeneville Elks Lodge #1653 is sponsoring the Tennessee Elks Nursing Scholarship, which is a four-year award of $2,000 to $2,500 per year if grade standards are met. Seniors who are planning on pursuing a nursing degree should apply. Applications must be submitted to the Greeneville Elks Lodge no later than January 15, 2009. www.tnelks.org/scholarship/nursing.php An Andrew Johnson Bicentennial Scholarship will be awarded to a student at each of the area five high schools. The grand prize winner will receive a $2,000 scholarship to put toward their continuing education. The four 1st place winners will each receive a $500 scholarship. To enter you must be a senior at one of the five area high schools, write an original essay of 1200-1500 words on the topic "Liberty and the US Constitution: What it Means to Me", and submit this essay by email to ANJO_superintendent@nps.gov by December 19, 2008. If would need to submit a paper copy of the essay call 423-639-3711 for instructions. KFC Colonel's Scholars Program is looking for outstanding seniors who have financial need and entrepreneurial spirit. Winners could receive up to $20,000 for college. To qualify you must have a minimum GPA of 2.75, plan to enroll in a public college within our state and pursue a bachelor's degree, be a citizen, and demonstrate financial need. To apply go to www.kfcscholars.org after December 1, 2008 and fill out the online application. Applications will be accepted through February 10, 2009. Thirty $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to high school seniors planning to attend accredited two or four-year colleges full-time next fall through the US Bank Internet Scholarship Program. Scholarships are awarded through a random drawing process. There are no essays or GPA requirements. Online applications are accepted October 2008 through February 29, 2009. Visit www.usbank.com/studentbanking to apply The McKelvey Foundation Entrepreneurial Scholarship awards $40,000 scholarships to young entrepreneurs who have started their own business. To qualify you must be a graduating senior, attend a four-year college or university in the fall of 2009, own and operate a business with at least one employee and submit the online application by January 25, 2009. mckelveyfoundation.org/entrepreneurial The Ned McWherter Scholars Program is intended to encourage academically gifted Tennessee seniors to attend college in Tennessee by offering a $6,000 per year award. To be eligible you must have a 3.5 GPA and a minimum ACT of 29 or SAT of 1280. You may apply on-line or by mail. The Robert C. Bryd Honors Scholarship is awarded to randomly selected applicants. The award amount is based on federal funding. To be eligible you must be a graduating senior, a Tennessee resident, have a 3.5 GPA or a 3.0 GPA with a minimum 24 ACT. You may apply on-line or by mail. Applications must be received by March 1, 2009. www.collegepaystn.com/mon_college/robert_c_bryd_sch.htm Virginia Military Institute recognizes and rewards outstanding academic achievement and students that show leadership capabilities with the Institute Scholars and the Superintendent's Scholars Scholarships. Financial need is not a criterion for selection. Eligibility requirements for the Institute Scholars are ACT of 29+, GPA 3.7+ and top 10% of class. Superintendent's Scholars eligibility requirements are ACT 27+, GPA 3.5+ and rank in the top 10% of the class. Application for admission, completed scholarship application form, resume and two short essays must be received by VMI admissions office no later than February 1, 2009 to be considered. www.vmi.edu ETSU University Honors College is looking for motivated and talented students for their Fall 2009 class. Students selected will receive scholarships that cover full tuition and fees, cost of standard housing and meals, and book allowance for four years. Minimum qualifications are ACT of 29, GPA or 3.5 and evidence of community and leardership activities. To request this application click here. UT Chattanooga is offering the Grote Chemistry Scholarship to high school seniors interested in majoring in Chemistry at UTC. Applicants must complete high school chemistry with at least a B, have a GPA of 3.5 or higher and a composite ACT of 26 or above. Applicants must have an admission application submitted by February 1, 2009 and submit the Grote Scholarship application by March 1, 2009. This is a 4-year renewable scholarship. Eligible students are seniors with a minimum 3.0 GPA or minimum ACT of 21, that can provide documetation of their leadership background and interest in leadership development. Applications are due January 30, 2009. www.memphis.edu/leadership_programs/emerging.php Vanderbilt University's Chancellor's Scholars Program honors in coming freshman with exceptional academic records who have a committment to diversity, leadership, strength of character and are able to articulate their ideas clearly. Seniors planning to apply must submit an application for admission and postmark or submit online the application for Merit-Based Scholarships by January 3, 2009. www.vanderbilt.edu/scholarships/chancellor.html The Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholarship Program is Vanderbilt University's largest academic merit scholarship program. It recognizes students who have outstanding academics, strong leadership and have made a contribution outside the classroom. Seniors planning to apply must submit an application for admission and postmark or submit online the application for Merit-Based Scholarships by January 3, 2009. www.vanderbilt.edu/scholarships/signature.html Burger King Scholars awards are $1,000 each and may be used for educational expenses during the first year at college or post-secondary vocation/technical school. Qualifications are at least a 2.5 GPA, work part-time an average of 15 hours per week, involvement in community service, and demonstrated financial need.. Go to the website to apply online. Online applications are accepted now throughdeadline is February 2, 2009. www.bk.com/companyinfo/community/BKS The American Legion National High School Oratorical Contest provides students grades 9-12 an opportunity to win college scholarship funds. Students must be certified by their school no later than January 16, 2009, and then participate in the First District Contest which will be held at a time to be determined between January 30 and February 9, 2009. District winners can advance to the Division, State and National contests. See the American Legion website for more details and oratation topics. Are you a senior who loves to cook and would like to attend one of The Art Institutes to further you culinary interests? The top winners of the Best Teen Chef competition will win full scholarships to The Art Institute of their choice. Local competition winners will receive a $3,000 tuition scholarship. To enter you must be a senior with a minimum GPA of 2.0 and submit a completed Entry & Release form by February 6, 2009 to a participating Art Institute that you would like to attend that offers a Culinary Arts program. Brown Scholarship opportunity to high school seniors not presently enrolled in a Cosmetology course, but wishing to pursue a career in the field of Cosmetology. Four $9,995 tuition scholarships are awarded for the 1,500 hour General Cosmetology course. Scholarship applications must be submitted to TSB by March 31, 2009. www.tennesseeschoolofbeauty.com Berrien Feragos Thorn Arts Scholarships for Migrant Farm Workers was formed to foster and encourage the creative talents of individuals with a history of migration to obtain work in agriculture. Applicants must be 16 or older, show a record of migrant movement and submit a letter of recommendation. There is no deadline for grants under $500. Grant requests for up to $2,500 are awarded semi-annually and applications deadlines are June 1 and November 1. www.migrant.net The Gloria and Joseph Mattera National Scholarship Fund for Migrant Children was set up to assist those migrant farmworker youth who have the desire and potential to further their education. Applicants must be able to show recent history of movement for agricultural employment, scholastic potential, financial need and plan to enroll in an accredited post-secondary school. There is no deadline for application. www.migrant.net Christian Connector is a "none-stop-shop" for receiving free information from Christian Colleges. A $2,500 Christian College scholarship drawing is held each year and the scholarship is awarded to an individual who completes the information request form and goes on to attend a Christian college or Bible college. You can enter the drawing between June 1, 2008 and May 31, 2009. To complete a request form and be entered go to www.christianconnector.com. Discover Colleges. Inc. provides a free private college information service. One $2,500 private colleges scholarship drawing is held each year and the scholarship is awarded to an individual who completes the information request form between Aug. 15, 2008 and Aug. 14, 2009 and goes on to attend a private college or university. www.discovercolleges.com The Young Epidemiology Scholars Competition provides college scholarships to high school juniors and seniors who submit an outstanding research project that sheds light on a health problem using epidemiological methods. Epidemiology is the science of exploring patterns of disease, illness, and injury within populations with the goal of developing methods for prevention, control, and treatment. Each year 120 students are awarded scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $50,000. For more information and to enter go to www.collegeboard.com/yes. All submissions must be entered by February 2, 2009. Seniors planning on attending Tennessee Tech University next fall can check out scholarship opportunities by going to www.tntech.edu/scholarships and clicking on ScholarWeb. This site will match your qualifications to available scholarships at TTU. You may apply for admission to TTU and scholarships online. If you apply using paper application you must also use the paper scholarship form. You must apply for admission and scholarships by December 15, 2008 to be eligible for the scholarships. The Stan and Thelma Plumlee Scholarship is an $8,000 scholarship offered by the Tennessee Manufactured Housing Association. To qualify you must be a senior planning to attend a Tennessee college, university or trade school and either live in a manufactured home or work in or be related to someone who works in the manufactured home industry. Applications must be received by the committee no later than March 16, 2009. The John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Essay Contest invites high school students from grades 9 thru 12 to write an original essay about an elected official who has demonstrated political courage. The 1st Place winner will receive $5,000 in scholarship money, the 2nd Place winner will receive $1,000 and 5 finalists will walk away with $500 scholarships each. The Ron Brown Scholar Program is open to African-American high school seniors who excel academically, show exceptional leadership and make an impact on their communities through service to others. Up to 20 students will receive $10,000 annually for four years. Applications postmarked by November 1, 2008 will be considered for the Ron Brown Scholar Program and forwarded to a select number of additional scholarship providers. Applications postmarked between November 2, 2008 and January 9, 2009 will be considered for the Ron Brown Scholar Program only. www.ronbrown.org The Culinary Institute of America's NSO Members Scholarship is available to students who are active members of FCCLA, SkillsUSA or ProSTart for at least one academic year and plan to enroll at CIA by June 2010. Submit a completed scholarship application and essay by March 1, 2009. www.ciachef.edu/admissions/finaid/merit Suntrust's Off to College Scholarship Sweepstakes begins September 15, 2008. Eligibility is not based on GPA or financial need. One $1,000 winner will be chosen every two weeks from October 31, 2008 through May 15, 2009. You may enter once per drawing. However, students can register after each drawing for the next scheduled drawing. offtocollege.info The Gates Millennium Scholars program is available to seniors who are African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American or Hispanic American. The nominee must be a US citizen, maintain at least 3.3 GPA, demonstrate leadership abilities through participation in community service and extracurricular activities and meet Federal Pell Grant eligibility criteria. Full instructions can be obtained and applications can be submitted online or downloaded at www.gmsp.org.
