 Enrichment Opportunities on this page are listed in the order they have been received in the Guidance Office with the newest entries listed first. Deadline dates are given if they have been provided with the information. Where applicable, links to online applications and information will follow the description. Entries will be deleted from the list as the deadlines pass. Deadlines will also be posted on the appropriate grade level calendars. The Anatomy & Physiology Camp on the campus of Appalachian State University is being offered to rising 9th - 12th grade studentswho may be interested in the medical, biology or chemistry fields of study. Camp fee is $580 which covers all expenses except transportation to camp for the week of camp. Camp dates are June 1-6, June 8-13 or June 15-20. Register by May 13, 2008 to receive fee discount. If you would like to explore a career in law and are a current 9th - 12th grade student, you may want to participate in Lipscomb University's Law Camp in Nashville, TN, during the week of June 8-13, 2008. The cost is $300 if registered by the June 1 deadline. This fee includes room and board and coarse materials. Click here to register.


The Takoma Regional Hospital Junior Volunteer Program is open to students ages 14-18. This would be a great way to add some volunteer service hours to your resume while giving back to your community. Applications can be picked up in guidance or downloaded at www.takoma.org/volunteer.html . Applications should be submitted by May 16, 2008.


Do not pass up this exciting opportunity to experience a week of "real" nursing and college life. If you are a junior or senior, have a GPA of 2.6 or above and think you might like a career in nursing, you will need to check out the ETSU Nursing Summer Program which will be held June 22-27. There is no cost to students that are selected to participate. Applications must be received by May 2, 2008


The Tennessee Farm Bureau and the County Farm Bureaus are sponsoring a youth delegation to the 52nd Annual National Leadership Forum June 8-13 at Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas. Two students from Greeneville High will be selected for this all expense paid opportunity. If you wish to be considered, are presently in grades 9-11 and have demonstrated good leadership and citizenship qualities, turn in a resume to the guidance office no later than April 18, 2008.

The Tennessee Society of CPAs will be offering the 7th Annual Accounting Academy to eligible high school juniors and seniors who are interested in a career in accounting. The program will be held at Belmont University in Nashville from July 20 - July 23, 2008. This opportunity will have NO COST to selected participants. Academic-minded rising sophomores, juniors or seniors will want to check out the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Summer Honors Program. The cost for the program, which runs from July 13 to July 26 is $750. Applications are due no later than April 1, 2008. old.www.iup.edu/honors/shp
There are two opportunities for high schools students at Boston University High School Summer Programs. The High School Honors program is a six-week program open to rising seniors where they can earn up to 8 college credits in two undergraduate courses. The Summer Challenge program is a two-week course of study for rising sophomores, juniors or seniors where they chose two non-credit seminars and preview college life. Each year students experience college level study at the Pratt Institute's PreCollege Program in Brooklyn, Manhattan, or Utica, NY. Program dates are July 7-August 1, 2008 and the tuition cost for four credits is $2,295. Applications are due by April 1, 2008. www.pratt.edu/ccps-precollege


The Carleton Liberal Arts Experience is a week long program in Northfield, Minnesota for rising juniors. All expenses are covered, including travel for the 50 scholars that are selected. CLAE scholars are typically in the top 25% of their class, are taking challenging college prep courses, and are active in their community. The 2008 Furman Summer Scholars Program at Furman University will be held during the weeks of July 13-19 and July 20-26. The program is open to rising juniors and seniors and a variety of classes are offered. Cost for a 1 week course is $800. Application deadline is June 20, 2008. www.furman.edu/summerscholars

The 4 Star Camps program lets students create their own experience by choosing from a wide variety of classes, sports and fine arts workshops. For more information and to download the varies applications go to 4starcamps.com .


The Clemson Summer Science, Engineering and Architecture Enrichment Program is offered to gifted middle and high school students. Fees range for $700 to $1,500 depending on the duration and type of class taken. For more information see www.clemson.edu/ugs/summerscience . Application deadline is May 1, 2008.
Tennessee Youth Conservation Corps is a summer program offering 16-24 year olds an opportunity to work outdoors in many of our state parks across Tennessee. Selected students earn $7.16 per hour. The Tennessee Governor's Academy for Mathematics and Science is where exceptionally curious, highly proficient Tennessee rising juniors gather to finish their high school careers. All academic costs as well as three meals a day are provided by the academy. TGA students are ones who are committed to learning. If you are interested in applying you may download an application at http://tga.utk.edu/. Applications and supporting materials must be received at TGA by March 15, 2008.
If you have an interest in veterinary medicine as a career, have a GPA of 3.0, will be at least 16 and will have completed the 10th grade by June 9, 2008, the Veterinary Summer Experience might be for you. The program is 8 weeks and students will receive a financial stipend. Applications with all supporting materials must be postmarked by March 31, 2008.

Come to Laughlin Memorial Hospital for the 2008 Discover Nursing Camp. Students who will be entering 10th or 11th grade are eligible to spend a full week this summer learning about nursing. Students must commit to one of the full weeks in June. Campers will be provided lunch each day, uniforms will be furnished and at the end of the camp they will receive a certificate of completion and a reference letter for their school file. Applications must be returned to the Laughlin Hospital Nursing office by May 1, 2008.


Vanderbilt offers the Pre-College PAVE Program each summer for six-weeks to present juniors who are planning to enter a college engineering, pre-med, science or technology program. The session begins June 23 and run through August 1, 2008. On-campus cost is approximately $5,845. Application deadline is April 20, 2008, but students are evaluated on a first come first serve basis. For more information and to request an application go to pave.vanderbilt.edu .

Washington University in St. Louis High School Summer Scholars program is open to rising high school seniors who have an academic average of B+ or better. The cost for the 5-week program is $5,695 plus transportation to St. Louis. Session A meets June 8-July 12, with the application deadline of May 2, 2008. Session B is scheduled for July 13-August 15 and has an application submission date of June 6, 2008. ucollege.wustl.edu/programs/highschool


MITES (Minority Introduction To Engineering and Science) is a challenging 6-week summer program, June 18 - August 2, at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) for rising seniors interested in careers in engineering and science. If selected the cost is FREE, except for transportation. Apply online by February 1, 2008. mit.edu/mites/www
The United States Military Academy Summer Leaders Seminar is for academically gifted rising seniors. Two sessions are offered, June 7-13 and June 14-20 at West Point. The cost, excluding transportation, is $325. Apply on-line until April 1, 2008. www.admissions.usma.edu/moreinfo/summer.cfm
Cornell Summer College offers a wide variety of programs for rising juniors, seniors and just graduated students. Admission decisions are on a rolling basis for all programs except RABS and Veterinary Medicine, application due date March 21, and CALS, application due date May 16, 2008. If politics is your passion you may be interested in the Junior Statesmen 2008 Summer Programs which are held at four of the most prestigious universities, Georgetown, Yale, Princeton and Stanford. Cost is $4,450 per student which includes the $50 nonrefundable application fee. Check website for dates and application. All applications materials must be received no later that March 28, 2008 to take advantage of discounts. www.jsa.org


Michigan Math and Science Scholars Summer Program is designed to expose high school students to current developements and research in science. Small 15 student classes are taught at the University of Michigan during two seesions June 29-July11 and July 13-July 25. Cost is $1,700 per session for students that will need room and board. Priority is give to applications received by April 1, 2008. www.math.lsa.umich.edu/mmss


National Youth Science Camp is open to seniors who will be graduating in 2008, intend to pursue a profession oriented toward science, mathematics, engineering or medicine and have demonstrated superior academic proficiency. The camp dates are June 29-July 26, 2008 in Charleston, West Virginia. Two students will be selected from each state for this NO   COST experience. More information and applications can be obtained on line or in the guidance office. Applications must be received by the state selection coordinator no later than February 18, 2008. www.nysc.org


Oxbridge Academic Programs will offer two programs in England, the Oxford Tradition and the Cambridge Tradition, during the summer of 2008. These programs are for students in grades 10-12. In addition three Continental programs will be offered for grades 9-12. They are la Academia de Espana, l'Academie de Paris, and l'Academie de France. Carnegie Mellon offers a Summer of Exploration for rising juniors and seniors. They offer seven distinct pre-college programs from June 28 - August 8, 2008. For more information and an application check out www.cmu.edu/enrollment/pre-college . Applications are to be submitted by May 1, 2008, although they will continue to accept applications after the deadline pending available space in the program.
The Tusculum College Upward Bound program is accepting applications for new participants. Upward Bound is a college preparatory program that is funded by the US Department of Education, so there is no cost to participants. The program is designed to help students succeed in high school while preparing them for college.
