Deadline dates are given if they have been provided with the information. Where applicable, links to online applications and information will follow the description. Entries will be deleted from the list as the deadlines pass. Deadlines will also be posted on the appropriate grade level calendars. Are you a sophomore wanting to be an Ambassador from our school for the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY) Seminar? This year's HOBY Leadership seminar will be held May 14-17, 2009 at Lipscomb University in Nashville, TN. STudents selected to attend have demonstrated the potential to be good leaders.. There is a $150 registration fee that the selected student will be responsible to pay. Please bring your resume to the guidance office by November 7, 2008, to be considered for this opportunity. "Our Time" Girls Club sponsored by the Equine Connection is for girls in grades 8-12 to provide a positive peer pressure group that focuses on personal growth and awareness along with goal setting and future life development. The club meets bi-weekly for 1-1/2 to 2 hours and each girl will be paired with a horse. For more information call 423-620-1494.


Governor's School offers selected gifted and talented high school students intensive learning experiences in Humanities, Math and Science, Arts, International Studies, Scientific Exploration of Tennessee Heritage, Prospective Teaching, Emerging Technologies, Engineering, Information Technology Leadership and Agricultural Sciences. Junior and Sophomore students who would like to participate in a challenging and high-intensity 5-week program in one of the twelve areas should obtain an application from the guidance office or online. Governor's School for the Arts applications must be returned to guidance no later than October 20, 2008. All other Governor's School applications need to be submitted to the guidance office no later than November 7, 2008. state.tn.us/education/govschools
The Tusculum College Upward Bound program is accepting applications for new participants. Upward Bound is a college preparatory program that is funded by the US Department of Education, so there is no cost to participants. The program is designed to help students succeed in high school while preparing them for college.
