National Standards
FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCE
1.0 Students will demonstrate citizenship, leadership and teamwork skills
needed for success in the family, workplace and community.
2.0 Students will evaluate factors that impact individual growth and
development in areas related to self-understanding, personal decision making,
communication, and interpersonal relationships.
3.0 Students will be able to analyze the importance of the family unit,
including parenting roles and responsibilities, on the development of
individuals and stability of society.
4.0 Students will be able to integrate knowledge, skills, and practices
required for management of human, economic, and environmental resources in the
family, workplace, and community.
5.0 Students will apply nutrition and food principles that enhance individual
and family well-being across the life span.
6.0 Students will apply knowledge, skills, and practices required for a safe
and pleasing living environment.
7.0 Students will illustrate knowledge, skills, and techniques in textile and
apparel choices and care.
8.0 Students will analyze career opportunities and examine employability
skills and traits in family and consumer sciences.

NUTRITION AND FOODS STANDARDS
1.0 Students will demonstrate leadership, citizenship, and teamwork skills
required for success in the family, workplace, and global community.
2.0 Students will analyze factors that influence nutrition and food practices
in a multicultural society.
3.0 Students will evaluate the nutritional needs of individuals and families
in relation to health and wellness across the life span.
4.0 Students will demonstrate safety and sanitation procedures when handling,
preparing, storing, and serving foods.
5.0 Students will demonstrate the ability to select, prepare and serve
nutritious and aesthetically pleasing foods.
6.0 Students will explore opportunities and preparation requirements for
careers in the nutrition and food industries.
7.0 Students will apply consumer practices in the selection of food to meet
nutritional needs and equipment used in food preparation.
8.0 Students will research and evaluate ethnic and foreign foods.
CHILD AND LIFESPAN DEVELOPMENT
1.0 Students will demonstrate leadership, citizenship and teamwork skills
required for success in the care and guidance of individuals throughout the
lifespan.
2.0 Students will appraise development theories and sources of information.
3.0 Students will examine the major development milestones in the area of
physical development during the prenatal period.
4.0 Students will analyze optional growth and development during the infant
and toddler stage.
5.0 Students will analyze growth and development during the preschool years.
6.0 Students will analyze growth and development during middle childhood.
7.0 Students will analyze growth and development during adolescence.
8.0 Students will determine career options related to meeting individual’s
needs throughout the lifespan.
9.0 Students will analyze development during adulthood.
10.0 Students will evaluate theories and effects of death and dying on
individuals and families.
